The Good News About EMD's (Exact Match Domains)

Hey, it's unfortunate that this happened but Here is a way to look at it and how I see it. Google didn't 'spank' EDM's, they didn't say "hey, you have an EMD so we are going to penalize you". In fact what was going on before was that Google was adding extra value for sites that had exact match domains. They were giving them authority over other domains.

Now because it only made sense that a lot of those sites were really spammy time has come to balance things out and this latest update to the Google's algorithm did just that.

The EMD's didn't get penalized, they were dethroned and placed down to where the rest of the domains are. What does that mean to you and I?

It means that if we take the EMD factor out of our SEO strategy and continue working on it as if it was any other domain, we should have just as good of a chance to rank for the keywords we target as any other domain.

Providing quality content that PEPOPLE find useful and being better than the competition will get our site back up there where it belongs, EMD or not.

That's my 2 cents. What is your opinion about this?

That is completely false. In fact, just the opposite. The big authority sites
never did get in the EMD nonsense. Something I have touted for years
here: warriorforum, digitalpoint, amazon, zillow, kayak, ebay,
    craigslist, zap2it, go.com, about.com, wikipedia, squidoo, um...just to
    name a few...

EMD in this context was just full of parlor tricks. Something I warned
about. Parlor tricks are not SEO. But people drank the kool-aid. They
    got exactly what they deserved.

Paul, so you didn't really say anything here other than that I was wrong... Can you elaborate on this a little? I didn't say what I wrote was fact, that is just what my thoughts were on this topic. I want to know what others think about it. It's a conversation worth starting. Everybody talks about how horrible it is and how this is the end of the line for EMD's. Fact is, there are so many EMD's out there, it would be stupid for Google to devalue them all. There has to be a rational explanation for what has happened. How I explained it makes a lot of sense to me. I welcome your input so please tell me why I am wrong and I will listen.

No grgmathew, I am not promoting anything... I shared my thoughts... and hoped people with more knowledge than mine would share their thoughts on this too. There must be an explanation and a solution to this other than just giving up or moving the sites to non-EMD sites.

Look Google is the biggest brand over internet and they arent playing fool with introducing algo like EMD. There is something to it. Now let me explain you.

Google is looking for websites which has less domain authority or new ones , which are utlizing emd and keyword stuffing things to manipulate ranking. EMD with high autjority are still ranling but ones misutlizing are being penaluzed.

EMDs was never part of SEO, it was people that didn't know SEO that got hooked on them. I don't feel sorry for anyone that got slapped & was depending on an EMD, plenty of folks around here were warned to not depend on an EMD.

The problem is you have a WSO telling folks to use EMDs & the rest of us telling folks to build a real site. The thinking people use is the classic fiverr mentality, "It's only $5".

Take that $5 & run up to Little Ceasers & get a $5 pizza, lol.

I'm not saying an EMD is bad, but it needs to make sense for the whole site (ex: cars.com).
