Changing URL's - Will I lose my Backlinks?

All you need to do is create your new domain and transfer the pages accross. Once you have done that go back to your old site and create a .htaccess file. Now for every page you have you need to create a line of code to link the old page to the new page like this;

redirect 301 /randompage.php http://www.newdomaimname/randompage.php

What this will do is tell the spiders that the page isn't there any more and it will send them to where the new page is. Most of the page rank will go accross but you won't see visually until the next page rank update.

If you have a big site you with too many url's you can just point the whole site to the homepage of your new domain but the page rank will only get passed to the new homepage and then will spread to the rest of your site from that page. You will lose internal page rank by doing that but here's the code for it. You will then have to delete the pages off your old site or you will have duplicate content.

I'm sure people will correct me if I have the code wrong but that's pretty much what you have to do. Make sure you keep the old domain because as soon as you give it up the 301's will not work any more. Hope it helps.

Yes, you will keep it but if you don't want to keep it for a long time just make sure you build quality links for your site first and make sure that you are ranking well so that when you don't want to keep your old domains the ranking will still not affected.
