I know the question is going to sound stupid and the answer is almost obvious
But
I have to ask
Lets say Google keyword research tool gives the result of local searches in the U.S. (by exact) - 1300.
Is that mean that 1300 computers with different IP addresses looking for this word? My question is - Is it possible that Im getting the result : 1300 Local Monthly Searches, but only 100 (for example) different people really looked and type this keyword?

  • Webscity,

This actually isn’t a dumb question and there have been a lot of studies about the accuracy of Google’s search volume suggestions. I can’t really point to any definitive proof of how these values are calculated however I would be careful about placing too much weight on any one metric. I think these numbers are meant to be suggestions and not concrete data.

Also, it would seem that these numbers are representing the number of queries ran so numbers could potentially contain multiple searches from the same user.

It is estimated that if your keyword is ranking in top 3 then this would be the figure

    first rank 50%
    Second rankd 25%
    Third rank 15%

    and rest 10%

the figure is not exact search it's just an average search that's displayed for that keyword for the past one year.

so if Google say the monthly local search is 1300, it does not mean that's the exact search every month, it may be possible the keyword is being search for 1200 times or may be 3000 times it's just an estimate of yearly average.

Local Monthly Search is the approximate 12-month average of the number of searches on Google for each keyword in the locations, languages, and devices that you selected.
So it depend number of searches and not how many times of they search

Jose Princely - I care because what is more important in internet marketing than keyword reseach?? no?
I need to know how many different people/families are looking for this term and when its come to local marketing its people who looking for a local service.

Can one make a business from 1300 searches or is that just a random number? Is that a search for Broad Search or an Exact Search?

      Hey,
Yes I can....1300 for one keyword....2600-3000 for 2 main keyword, so 3000 searches per month its 750 - 1500 visitors.....do you think its a mistake to make business from 3000 searches (its local business)??
And if you dont think so ...why so many local business try their best to go to first page?
In this case its a locksmith company located in Seattle.
The number I wrote its for "exact" not "broad" ..

So with the tool you get an idea for which you can select the keyword . It will be waste of time if the searches are low and you won't get any visitors. In order to bring visitors you need traffic keyword with large searches for the keyword only then it will be possible to get visitors to our site.

      Thanks,
After trying all day to use different keyword tools I can see that you are right...all of them just taking the data from Google....but my main question was....
Is it possible that Im getting the result : 1300 Local Monthly Searches, but only 100 (for example) different people really looked and type this keyword?
I know its the average number from last year....I know its the most accurate tool I can find...
      But
What I dont know and trying to find an answer from yesterday is if 1300 searhe(or any other number) its from different IP computer (different users) or it can be taht its just 1300 from the same user?

    Hi webscity,

How Google process the search volume in its Adwords Keyword Tool is not know outside Google development team unless you are one of the members in their team i.e. their programming team.

    But two things for sure:

    1. Their data is ever changing "over time" basically searches are done on a daily basis by millions of people.

    2. Their data is not absolute numbers and I believe some estimation is involved in their algorithm.

You may want to try use Wordtracker as they are using different data sources other than Google.

You could be right that there are definitely some bots or humans searching the same keywords using different IPs but I don't think it is going to impact the value of the keywords searched simply because Google has a huge database and what you see is the last two months of data and also the trends.

Yeah, don't forget to check the trends or seasonal changes for your particular keyword using

    www.google.com/trends/

Other than de facto Google Adwords tool, we should also counter check with other tools and do further evaluation especially on keyword competition before trying to rank that particular keyword.

    That's my 2 cents,

    Albert
