How to choose the right article sites?
- SEO |
I'd like to cull that list down to 10-20. But I don't even know what questions should I be asking.
If your first thought is "what's the PR value of the site's homepage" and you think article marketing still works, there's other threads for you to spam your article directory or client's links in. There's probably a whole lot of things we could do to improve things - I know some people actually get traffic from articlebase and ezinearticles rather than linkjuice.
Here's some thoughts.
1. Is the link nofollow?
Test: Check if it's nofollow...
2. Relevancy. Is the site geared to the client's niche. A client will have multiple niches. If they're a local company, an "article directory" for that area (if one exists) would be fine. Industry article sites too.
Test: What's the site about?
3. How efficient the internal linking is. Sites with wide categories mean your articles are in virtual silos which dilute relevancy. Sites with tight categories push your content 4-6 clicks into the site and probably either won't give any value or won't be indexed.
Test: Check the PageAuthority of a random article on the site with 0 external links - at least 6 months old. Is the page indexed? Look at the click journey.
4. What other sites use this service? Are there links to pay day loans, gambling, viagra and spammy sites on the article directory? Is there duplicate content on the site? (Irony!) How good is the moderation?
Test: Google poker site:{site URL}
5. How many pages are indexed? In your intended category, how old is the last article on the page. If they're 2-3 months old mean your article could stay 3 clicks from the homepage for 2-3 months. Total pages indexed doesn't really mean much because even on high PR sites, Google will stop indexing pages below a certain threshold.
6. ???
