Buying Static Ads Vs SEO

I've been reading a lot of info lately about. About how the panda update on google has changed how people rank. Lots of the blogs I read talk how it is easier to rank to the top, but it is hard to stay there. Essentially like buying advertising space for a very targeted visible high traffic audience.

So I had an Idea, probably been done before. I just want to know how successful it can be and if anybody has tried it.

Instead of worrying about trying to rank to the top. Why don't I just build a simple sales page, then purchase static advertising space sites that get high traffic and are related to what I'm selling. It might be expensive and an investment, but do you think it will work.

I think the benefit would be I don't have to worry one bit about google. Their ranking system would not matter at all. They could penalize my site all they want, because I'm solely relying on the ads I purchase for my traffic, and email marketing to capture client emails.

Through the emails my clients will get their value and info. The website is a quick sales page and email capture.

What do you think?

Im not to sure but my own research shows that sales page websites don't matter if they are highly ranked to people if they are trying to find information. Most look on my site for 10$ see that im selling something and click back out. I rarely convert from straight up clicks.

Go with the Ad or if you don't already have one start an affiliate program or a mailing list.

Thanks. I am probably leaning toward capturing emails for sure. Are there anymore opinions on this topic out there.

Here is my 2 cents as they say...

Some marketers have an in built obsession on ranking highly on google....and that's fine. Except there tends to be an over reliance on one traffic source and when it goes pear shaped they tend to be the first ones crying foul.

Personally I believe you should diversify traffic sources.

The benefit of purchasing advertising space is that IF your sales funnel converts and you know your numbers you can very easily scale up and not have to rely on SEO for example.

However you really do need to test, track, test, track and test and track again...over and over and over.... So you can get the maximum ROI.

    Hope this helps

Diversify always, combination of SEO, banner ads, PPC, social media, video marketing, email marketing etc. Bring in traffic from all different sources so you're never reliant on one method. For me SEO is just not worth spending all my time on anymore, too unpredictable and Google can easily wipe out a huge amount of my traffic overnight if they want to so I'd rather not be too reliant on them.

The principle of "taking representations of your business to where the targeted traffic already is" is undoubtedly a good one.

Businesses that depend on Google for their primary traffic are never completely secure, and in fact never more than one algorithm change away from a potential accident/disaster, as so many Warriors have learned (some to their very great cost) over the last couple of years. SEO traffic is also poor quality traffic, anyway, for many of us.

In the long run, it's not a good thing to depend exclusively on any one traffic source, if you can avoid it.
