Try to keep keyword density around 2% and the length of content you should increase a little, it should be from 350 words to 500 words...

Do use, images, videos, sub heading, hyperlink, poll, related posts if possible.

yup, 2% density is good but you can also add some additional synonyms of your keywords to the articles. Show the different variations of the keywords rather than just blindly using the same keyword in that article again & again.

The best rule of thumb estimate is to not think about it. Concentrate on writing for your human audience and you'll find that in most cases you'll naturally write content with a good keyword density and more importantly with LSI keywords.

My motto is if you have to think about keyword density, then you're doing it wrong.

ROTFLMAO!!! I say it way too many times....if someone gives you a figure,
then what other kind of BS are they sellling?

I cannot believe in soon-to-be-2013, that this keyword density BS is
still floating around. Are people ever going to come up out of the stone age?

Did you know the longer your articles are, the more SEO unfriendly they become?
Not to mention human unfriendlieness as well.

Quality of an article cannot be measured by length or keyword density.

With recent updates, I think 2% is still too much. You really need to de-optimize your posts. For me, 1% seems to work just fine, with some LSI keywords spread throughout the text for good measure.

Also, I only use the keyword once in either an H2 or H3 title whereas the rule of thumb used to be to use it once in each title before.

There are ecommerce sites that have the product name in every title, for example crosstrainer, that way they get a kw density of like 15% and they rank fine. So yeah can't put a number on it. Having just a random article with 15% density is imo very wrong though, I think people knows the difference as each product on an ecommerce site is surrounded by other html code etc.

Google want only quality content. So your article should be have at least 300 words. But I think 600+ word articles are more SEO friendly. Then you can think about Density. Normally I think 1%-2% is best.

Have you every read a 1000 word article with 2% density..Kinda reads ridiculous and forced.

Even 1000 word and 1% is too much.....300 words, 1% is actually more natural.

If you want an actual number, use around .25 to .75 and tweak it to read as natural as possible.

I would go for longer articles, and I would focus less on density.

WARNING: I am NOT an SEO expert, but find that quality content that's relatively long (and must be unique) will be eaten by google much faster.

Not only that, people might actually read / share / tweet it if it's good.

If it's rushed content? Expect poor results.

I have a question for some clarity. If I have 3 key words, say blue, white and red. Now blue and white are used once each in the article but red is used 5 times. In calculating a 1% to 2% key word density spread would I count the key words as 3 (blue, white, red) or as 7 (blue, white and 5 x red).

As others have mentioned here, write for your audience and
the KW density won't matter a jot. As long as you mention
your KW's in a natural way all will be fine.

Short posts tend to be better than long ones, as people are
generally lazy and prefer not to read too much. If you have
a lot of content, I suggest you split it into smaller articles
and interlink between them on their keywords. This will help
improve your SEO score.

Statistics will prove my approach irrelevant but it's worked for me. I say use your keyword however many times necessary. Don't go out of your way to incorporate your keyword into your content. What you should go out of your way to do is use related keywords. LSI is the correct terminology, technically speaking.

It isn't as simple as using the phrase fat loss because your page is targeting the phrase how to lose weight. I try to brainstorm related topics as I'm preparing to write. This concept has been known since the dawn of SEO but it really does make the algorithms appreciate what you have to say that much more if you're very skilled at bringing the write vocabulary into play.

If everything is done right you will have a piece that actually provides a much better read for your audience.

write freely and naturally. Don't worry about your H2 tags, bolding the keyword, interlinking with keyword, putting the keyword in italics etc...

HOWEVER Your keyword should be in the:

TITLE
DESCRIPTION
IMAGE ALT TEXT
ONCE IN a 500 WORD DOCUMENT

Most of the SEO Experts believe that the keyword density would be 1 - 3 % . According to Matt Cutts talks There’s no set percentage for keyword density, “That’s not the way that search engine rankings work”.
