Best SEO for home page not in public_html

I have a couple websites where I have a forum or blog in a directory other than public_html and where now I realized that forum (in one case) or blog should really BE my home page because it has much more activity and would be more appealing to visitors.

So, I'm used to always having index.php or index.html in the public_html as my home page, if I want a user to go to a page, say: mydomain.com/blog/index.php whenever they type in "mydomain.com" as the URL, what is the best way to do that for SEO purposes? Should I have my index.html just redirect to blog/index.php ?? Or is there a setting which actually says, use blog/index.php as my home page and would that be better SEO instead of a redirect?

Thanks in advance. Hope I've spelled out my question clearly, but I'm willing to try again if you don't understand what I'm asking.

If you want the forum or blog to by default come up when you go to your domain either move the files into the root of your web directory, or change the path of your domain to go to the sub folder of your blog or forum. Or if you want www.yourdomain.com to go to a regular website and want to link to the blog or forum from www.yourdomain.com then create a sub domain like blog.yourdomain.com or forum.yourdomain.com and point to the blog or forum folder.

This is what I was trying to achieve -- how would I "change the path of the domain" to go to the sub folder?

I didn't see that option in CPanel, though I just emailed my hosting help desk to see if they can tell me.

Well there should be a icon called add on domain in cpanel. Click that and it should show you your root domain, cant remember if you can edit it or not, but if you can then you should be able to change the path for that domain. Otherwise I would just wait to hear what the helpdesk says. Each host might have their own flavor of cpanel so best to see what they say.
