Link building is a natural way to rank higher, you just have to do it naturally

Keep on writing good contents, targeting specific keywords you want to rank for. Promote your posts by submitting to article directories, web 2.0s, social bookmarks, and social networks. Do submissions in random intervals and don't submit all at once to avoid spamming.

Create blogs on HIGH PR WEB 2.0 sites. Then post 2-3 unique articles on each blog. Never start backlinking with the first post itself. Leave a backlink in 2nd or 3rd post. This way the blogs won't get deleted.

Drive traffic to your blog through social media and link building. Add more interesting contents to your blog. Ones that can catch user's attention.

Through that, having a good social media profile and interesting contents, people will get interested to what's inside your blog.

There's a big chance that your blog might be spread through word of mouths or viral sharing. If you get that done, you will get natural link backs and eventually, you will get higher in the SERP.

    No one mentioned guest blogging?

Guest blogging is the only backlinking sculpting method that Google approves of.

Make sure the guest blog is in your niche and a make sure you vary your anchor text.

Here is google matt cutts talking about the right way and the wrong way to guest blog:

Guest blogging still works very well but I would never believe what Matt Cutts says. They don't want webmasters to game their search algorithm. They want more people to pay for adwords.
Until few months back Matt Cutts was denying the existence of negative SEO and then Google released the disavow tool to combat negative SEO.

oh okay. thanks for setting me straight. google doesnt want webmasters optimizing valuable free content based on how people search.

they just want to a create search engine filled with ads with the top ten highest bidders. And all the people using Google will just continue using Google because they bring up the best ads.

I hope Wikipedia learns its lesson and stops prostituting itself.

Optimizing for the system and gaming the system is an entirely different thing. They don't want us to simply get links ourselves. They want us to have content that people want to link to.
Regarding ads, do a simple search like best computer or best flower delivery and see how many ads are above the fold. Google doesn't want webmasters to have ads above the fold but the top half of their own search results these days is 70-80% ads.

whoever said get links simply by ourselves?

I just demonstrated via the videos above that google okays the use of guestblogging for backlinks if the guest blogger is providing value.

google okays this method of backlinking knowing full well that it will probably lead to better SERP results for the guest blogger. Optimizing by its very nature is gaming the system.

as for ads, google has to get paid on the other hand they are what they are because of the democratization of information that is free to create as it is free to access.

Certain keywords are in essence commerce words such as best pc or best flower shop so it stands to reason that there be more ads when searching for these terms. This is a good user experience for all parties involved.

But the majority of keywords are not saturated by ads.

Guest posts are definitely one of the good ways to do it.

Go to technorati and search for blogs related to your niche. Write yourself (or hire someone) to write a good article related to your niche/blog and offer it to the webmaster of the blog for free to post it on their site.

This will give you both a backlink and traffic to your site. 1 shot = double kill. Good luck.

    Hi NelsonSanabria!

I think you should check the on-page optimisation and offpage optimisation of your competitors. I believe you can do that with seomoz.org or linkdensity.com.

In terms of on-page optimisation, you can compare information such as the readability of a website and other navigation factors.

On the other hand, you could also check the keyword density of your competitors. In this way, you could specifically make your adjustments and set a bench mark.

    Hope this helps.

I would also take a look at some of the things your competitors are doing (that is, those who are ranked more highly than you at the moment). Once you figure out some of the things they are doing well, and are doing poorly, you will have a better understanding of what it will take to pass them.

Start building your own network or invest a lot of your time trying to network with other blogs in your niche. This is a solid way to distribute your content.
