SEO value for forwarded domain

I have branded the domain www.stokedpeople.com on several social media sites as well as printed stickers and other investments of time. I later realized the value of having targeted keywords in my domain name and now have the above domain forwarded to www.surfboardsforsale.org, where the website lives.

Will I lose SEO value if I use www.stokedpeople.com in my back linking strategy?

Thank you.

Well, technically, there's nothing to lose. If you build links to stokedpeople - then you're building a back-link profile for that domain - even though it's being redirected.

I think you'll be better off just building a back-link profile for surfboardsforsale. In this case, should G decide to devalue redirected domains in the future - surfboardsforsale will be able to stand on its own.

Also, if you're keen on using already branded domains - then a smart strategy would be to find more branded domains with existing traffic and purchase those. Then redirect them to surfboardsforsale (or other value sites) as you're doing with stokedpeople.

    Hope this helps.
