Fair Percent to Pay Persormance Based SEO Worker

Hi,

I am an affiliate marketer with adsense, affiliate and review sites. I was asked by the person I hired to do SEO for one of my sites if I would consider paying him a percentage of total sales per month. I am paying him hourly now and am waiting to see his results before I consider this option. He would get my sites ranked and maintain the rankings. This would be for life of site. He is from Pakistan if that matters.

I have found through some research that 20-30% would be fair. This percentage was usually a 1 time payment once results showed.

I will be paying this person forever basically. I would like to know what would be fair. I am not sure about a fair price for this type of market.

    I would say around 80% since they are doing most of the work.

        It is definitely really high, but from what you are describing, you are not really bringing anything to the table. You have websites created and niches identified. While that takes some work, generally that is the easy work. Getting traffic is the hard part.

        Oh yeah, and not to mention that depending how difficult the keywords are, you might be asking the SEO to work for free for 60-90 days (or longer) until any real income starts coming in.

        Okay... so maybe 70%.

    I'm surprised anyone doing SEO would even suggest getting payed by a percentage of income, for all he knows you could tell him your not making any money from the ranked pages.

    Speaking of pages, how would you deal with that, are you paying him solely based on the pages he ranked, are you tracking Adsense down to page level, which can only be done by connecting your Adsense account to Google Analytics.

    Sounds way too confusing & too many loopholes (too your advantage).

      We have built a trusting relationship. It is all on trust obviously but I will show him monthly adsense, clickbank and amazon commissions directly from my account while logged in. I can take screenshots and show him what he needs to see. He is looking for some long term relationship as am I. Hope this makes sense. He will get % of total income from all my sites.

        So your paying him a percentage of your total income, even If he had nothing to do with a page that generated a sale? That's a shot in the foot, If that's the way your paying the SEO guy.

        I just don't see how you could possibly make this work so it's fair for both sides.

          My sites are not ranked and making no money as of now so I think could work. I just don't have money to pay upfront. I don't see this as a bad thing. Any other thoughts?
