When you are logged into Adwords account and you want to get estimate of traffic based on cpc of a keyword, the tool returns x amount of daily impressions and clickthorughs for that keyword and it also shows how much it will cost you daily.

Is this tool accurate?

Edit: It should read 'estimator' in the title.

  • Anton,

You have it right, it should say estimator. I would be careful not to place too much weight on the results this tool gives you. There is some evidence that it gives different results depending on whether you are logged in or out of a Google account.

It can be very inaccurate, sometimes under or over-estimating clicks by over 100%. I know this from personal experience.

The best way to estimate the real traffic is by running an actual campaign for a week and bidding high enough to secure the top spot. If you like, you can write an ad that is certain not to get clicked: "Pay $9,999 for product X when you click here!"

    You get the idea.

But if your bid is high enough, you'll still get a lot of impressions. These will tell you much more about the traffic for that particular SERP than the keyword tool.

As for the estimated cost, you can bring that down dramatically, since the CPC depends on your quality score.

    Hope that helps.
