So am working on a site and as it happens, the home page can be accessed via either the direct url, or the direct url/keyword. When it comes to acquiring external links for my home page, should I use the home page, or the home page/keyword that takes me to the same page?
Reason I have this problem is that I chose to make a static home page using WP.

  • Lutherlars,

Are you saying that both your home page (i.e. www.example.com) and a subdirectory (i.e. www.example.com/keywordpage) both lead to the same place? This is probably an issue with how you installed wordpress. Did you install the package at the root of your domain using an FTP client? You may want to fix this before you get too far down the road adding content and modifying things.

As far as adding links, I would add them to the top level domain (www.example.com) if you plan to fix this issue. In general, it will depend on your goals for your site and the context in which the link is placed that will determine which page it leads too. For example if you are submitting your site to a website directory, then the main URL is fine. If however you are linking from an article that is talking about something specific, it would create a better user experience to link to a specific page on your domain that relates specifically to the article.

Check out this article on deep linking strategies. It has some good tips on linking inner pages of your website,

    Hope that helps,
