Amazon Puts PPC Affiliates to the Sword

Heya folks

Just got this in my Inbox from Amazon Associate Program:

As of May 1, 2009, Associates will not be paid referral fees for paid search traffic. Also, in connection with this change, as of May 1, 2009, Amazon will no longer make data feeds available to Associates for the purpose of sending users to the Amazon websites in the US or Canada via paid search.
This change applies only to the Associates programs in North America.

Now, I make diddly off of Amazon and I hate PPC with a vengeance so it don't really affect me, like.

However, some people may need to change their strategy in the coming month. Dunno.

Just thought I'd mention it ,heads up style, for what it's worth.

Just drive ppc traffic to your own website listed in your amazon account, with links to amazon and they will still pay you!

I think there are a lot of reasons that Amazon is doing this. First they are tired of paying out commissions in an absolute terrible market. Second this will lower their cost for ppc marketing because the competition has essentially been rid of.

It just means you can't direct link to amazon in your ppc ads anymore. Probably won't affect a lot of people.

Amazons tracking program stinks anyways. No subids.... and they take forever to pay you.
    I gave up on them.

Personally, I'll rather let the affiliates incur the cost of all the ppc and stick to making money on selling stuff
