Ive been doing a bit of niche research and have come across yahoo answers ranking as the number 1 result time and time again.

After that there are a handful of PR3, PR4, n/a, PR0..all other factors aside would you go after said niche based mostly on Yahoo answers being ranking as number 1?

    How do the backlinks look?

It's hard to say without more information.

Those are most likely weak keywords and the response activity helps it rank.

It all depends on the competition I would say but Yahoo Answer is very authority site so it may rank higher than other sites as well.

Well, never ever rely on just one factor, but it is true that if yahoo answers is the best out there then you can probably do better.

Yahoo Answers has an advantage of being a huge site, they usually have a lot of internal pages targeting relevant keywords in the same niche (internal links).

This. That said, I doubt anybody links to an answer on YA. I think it's just because Yahoo is HUGE.

The keywords dont have the highest of search volume because they is such a variance in the way people search for them.

For example: one might search: how do I fix red widget, can a red widget be fixed with ex, etc.

The majority of the keywords are actually questions, asking to clarify things. There are soo many variations of these keyword phrases. I want to create an authority site around these questions. There would be dozens and dozens of pages of content.

There is not an authority site out there related to this niche, but you can find answers to said questions on places like yahoo answers

There are some long tail keywords for which Yahoo Answers does rank quite well on SERP and sometimes very quickly as well. I guess that happens because of the authority of Yahoo Answers.

Yahoo answer if awesome to rank for non competitive long tail keywords. Make a good list of them and ask a question about each keyword. Ping them and watch them climb to #1

Is there any sort of "spamming" rules with yahoo answers? Can I ask a ton of questions under 1 user name and then create multiple other user names and answer that question with a link to to the site I want to create?

Would they track my IP, and stop what I am doing?
