While the 200+ factors may or may not be true, one thing you can count on is Google's ranking criteria changing on a regular basis. The only people that know for sure all of the factors that are considered work at Google, so the odds that aren't too good that anyone here or elsewhere knows exactly what Google considers when ranking your website. The fact that you are new to SEO and already know the importance of onsite SEO is a good start though.

Hmm, I don't know about that If you've got decent domain history and the site in general ranks well, off page isn't as important.

A page I'm working on for an ecommerce store ranks 2nd at the moment, with 5 direct links. They're half decent links, but nothing special - no social options on the page either. The third page is from a high street retailer (it's for a specific type of shoes) who have stores nationwide, but they have 88 links coming in - most of which are also decent..

I have had lots of succes with the bare minimums

SEO is not a to do list

It is making the website visible, findeable (a new word ) and a great experience for the buyer.

An intuitive site will have a natural and great SEO.

So have good titles, images, link pages and content and you will rank (200 or not this works like a charm).
