Let's say I get 5 backlinks from a high Page Rank site. Would this count as 1 backlink or 5 backlinks? Thanks.

If each of the pages are indexed I believe it would be 5 backlinks, however 5 backlinks from different sources I'm sure would be weighted higher.

Lastly, Just because the main index page of a given website is a PR5 or whatever, doesn't mean that each internal page is also going to be a PR5 :-)

Multiple links on the same page can be good for that, but in the case of multiple links on URL, all pointing to URL, they count as one. multiple links from different URLs on one domain all count independently of course.

they should count as 5 backlinks if you got them from different urls. for instance, On domain can have different urls in that say you post here at the forum and each of your post on different threads will be counted as one backlink. I saw with my indexed backlinks from Google, sometimes i have 5 or 8 backlinks but when I check them i notice they are coming form the same forum.

    Thanks

If the same IP address which it would be on one site then basically one link for Google although Yahoo and MSN would probably count them all.

I think I just saw a video of a google algo-geek stating the opposite.

Different high PR links from different domains and Class C blocks are best

If you have them from the same IP it's not horrible, unless that is all that you have and you never get new ones.

If you have 5 links from the same domain that's fine too - but it would be most beneficial if you had different words that were similar as the anchor text. This helps google to see that it's not a menu item - but instead a real link:

example - if your articles are about SEO Consulting in Dallas (my target), you'd want links that were different but mean the same thing:

Search Engine Consulting in Dallas, TX
        Dallas Search Engine Consultant
        SEO Consulting Dallas, TX

Also if the links are in the middel of a paragraph that is keyword related google treats the link as more valuable than if they are just listed alone like I have done above.

More important that fretting over if the links are valuable or not - just get a bunch of quality, keyword rich links, in the most natural way you can and move on. If you spend too much time worrying about it, you are spending less time actually doing it.

Many thanks James! verified what I suspected ... Thats why Im adding articles to the mix vs just blogroll links :-) or comments with sig links etc ...

When backlinking tasks are being under taken - Im over the moderated comment posting... I'll save those links up for another day.

I just noticed a few moments ago - a blog post I care about a great deal - and have giving some backlink love is now in top 10 for one of 10 LT KW Im after - yippeeee I think its working a little

Well as I posted earlier ... I got a little tired of the moderated jive and hunting around and around for a thread to speak about intelligently with a post I thought would pass moderation.

Now I only go to MY OWN BLOGS ... ohhh around 200 of them - free for the asking Here's why ... Xebec ... They installed the software to drive community derived user content ... I quote from the software developers literature .

XYZ ABC Blogs allow enterprises to capture the search value created by their user generated content.

          • Complete search engine visibility
          • XXXXXX -based implementation
          • Implementation best practices maximize SEO benefit
          • Guidance from experienced services team throughout process

The enterprises they talk about are some of the biggest media outlet online with pretty dang good PR sites - PR4-8 for the most part.

And ya know what ... its funny they all pretty much have one of these little thingies connected to them ..??

Now I know I aint the sharpest tool in the shed - but someone once said that little thing was cooler than manually bookmarking all my Do Follow Comment Entries ... I dunno.

I'll just keep postin away my articles and blogroll links and keywords on all 200 of these sites ... who knows it might work .. one day.

But I guess all that huntin around ... hoping to sneak in a link under the moderators radar ... getting links dropping off after the mods change the comments to NoFollow ... is SMARTER than my way.

Yes, I do agree that bookmarking every profile page is not necessary, but it is an easy fix to Xebec's concern. As he states in his post below, it appears there is no link path to some of the profiles for the search engines to follow. If your worried then bookmark it. easy fixed. Bookmarking doesn't take up much of your time at all if your are set up to do it properly. I personally think its worth the effort.

BUT, if i think about it, the newly created profile page doesnt have any page rank until PR flows to it from the rest of the site. If there is no path through the site, to your profile for the search engines to follow, then how would PR flow to the profile? it wouldnt.
Then you could pretty much say that link is worth almost zero.

ahhh, so many things to ponder.

yeah.. That is considered as one backlink because those 5 links pointing to your site are indicated only at same page. But backlinks coming from DIFFERENT pages are considered +++ backlinks

Since Google bases PR on links from a page to a page, it doesn't directly matter what site or IP the link is on. Each page adds a little authority and an incoming link vote.

BUT, site diversity is a bit of an issue. If your link diversity is small - a lot of links from the same site - you don't get as good of votes as a wider link profile. Also, if all of the linking sites are on the same C class IP or the same actual IP itself, Google considers that you may be controlling a lot of those backlinks, rather than them being natural. They may then discount the value somewhat.

This negative view of the backlinks may or may not kick in on your backlinks. It's all up to Google and how they happen to be processing at that time with their algo.

Generally, a wider link profile is better in order to protect the quality of your links, but a few extra here and there coming from the same place aren't what Google's after to "punish" you. They're using the data to catch people with link spamming. It's just that a bunch of backlinks that look like they are coming from many different sources will lead Google to better believe they are natural.

I noticed on the Google webmaster tools that it tracks which domains your backlinks come from. So I'm thinking that maybe Google is more interested in having links from varied domains rather than links from a single domain...

From getting quality backlinks from different domains are always beneficial but i would say yes in your case as even i my self seen for my many sites getting more than one backlink from a single site. Even from a article sites you can get different back-link for different article
