I've a blog that has over 300 blog posts on it about football and betting, I've only recently settled on a selection of keywords that aren't totally relevant to a proportion of the blog posts I made in the early days of it's existence (before I had decided on the direction I wanted the website to go in).

Are these blog posts damaging my SEO as they are not relevant to the keywords I am now trying to concentrate on?? As they give me no real option for internal linking.

Therefore should I delete these blog posts/pages that aren't relevant to my keywords?

Thanks in advance.

No don't delete it, that's a stupid idea.
All you need to do is separate them out into themes, read up on silo sites. As long as articles that are related to each other are linked to each other, and articles that aren't related aren't connected then you're fine.

Just because you're focusing on some keywords doesn't mean you need to shut out other ones that are already there

  • OK thanks..... would it count against my site if I added a small sentence to some of the more relevant pages that included keywords?

Basically what I am asking is does (slightly) changing posts after a period of time count against you with google?

What are your old/new focus keywords? It really all depends on relevancy. If all you have is content revolved around football and betting, and are now targeting for example "Personal Injury Law", then the content is few and far between (not good).

What keywords are you now going after? With more info I can shed some more light for you.

Sorry, I should have been more specific... what I am writing about in general is football trading, in the past I have just written about football......

Football Trading can cover a wide variety of keywords. The keywords I am targeting now are.... football trading - matched betting - pre match trading - online bookmakers - free bets.......

The ones I am targeting the most (the less competitive ones) are 'football trading' and 'matched betting,' and if I get somewhere with them, I will move onto the more competitive ones like 'free bets.'

My early posts are just generally about football, and have nothing about my current target keywords (trading, matched betting), etc in them.... that's why I was wondering should I ditch some of these posts, as I wasn't sure if they were diluting my latter attempts at SEO on my current keywords.

They do though have football in a lot of them, so I suppose they are semi relevant, but they have no relevance to the keywords 'trading, matched betting, etc..

Unfortunately when I started the website, it had no real direction. And as a result, a lot of the posts were too random.

I hope that makes things clearer....
