Blog for ecommerce - On same site or separate?

Im looking to create a blog for my ecommerce site for SEO purposes. But I cant decide if I should make it part of my main site ie; mysite.com/blog or newblog.com .

I use magento and having it part of my site would be easy to have a block displaying recent blog posts in a column. However, I dont know if thats necessary and would customers even care to ready em?

Or, just create newblog.com and link to my main site within the blog posts?

Go for the mysite.com/blog . It would be easier to rank the blog posts this way, plus your site will get updated with fresh content each time you make a blog post.

There are a number of extensions that will add a blog to your Magento store. The most popular one is the aheadWorks blog extension. You might even prefer a Wordpress blog, as most people do for many more blogging features, and there are extensions that allow you to integrate a Wordpress Blog to your Magento store.
