Hello,
While I was checking backlinks of a competetor to my website I noticed that they are using several domain names pointing to the same website. Is it a legit technical for SEO? Lets say I want to rank my website better in US and I bought a domain name with the extension : mywebsite.US and pointed it to my existing website, will this really help to rank my website in US?
Thank you warriors

Yes, you are talking about a Private Site Network.

They work very well for ranking websites.

I mean a redirect, when one type two domains he gets the same main website, for example when someone type mysite.us what he get is mywebsite.com

Are you asking whether redirecting a domain name to your main site has any SEO benefit?

In theory, the backlinks sent to a redirected domain should pass over to the target domain. So if you redirect a High PR domain to your website, it should pass on a bunch of authority. However, you do not want to look like you're gaming the search engines. There are TONS of websites that do this strategy legitimately. For example, Ebgames(dot)com used to have the domain electronicsboutique(dot)com. <--- or something like that. Anyways, they redirected the old domain to the new one, and immediately benefited from the old authority.

It does work, but if you're doing it for the wrong reasons, then you better be darn good at keeping it under the Google radar.

The main reason why companies redirect variations of their main domain name is simply to ensure cybersquatters don't come in a register a domain name to steal traffic.

Not just for cybersquatting, but actually using them as well.

I find these threads quite entertaining. Every big site has a plethora of
domains pointing to the same site, using various ways of redirecting albeit.

Like ebaymotors.com for one. ESPN.com for another.

Redirects Gives us good results when we are talking about domain name.. but redirect domains should also have good quality of pagerank and domain authority...
