Site demoted by Google!

I was shocked to discover that my site has recently been demoted from PR3 to PR2. I was actually hoping for a PR4 as my site has held a 3 ranking for 2 years. This makes it all the more difficult to understand.

I steadily work on improving my content and white hat SEO. The proof is in my regular high standings in the SERPs. If anything, my search positions have improved recently, which makes the ranking demotion utterly confusing.

The only thing I have neglected is reciprocal linking. constantly build backlinks but I completely gave up reciprocal linking a year ago and so my links page is dormant. I think reciprocal linking is worthless but could this have anything to do with losing my ranking?

Any advice is appreciated!

PR isn't all that meaningful so don't worry about it too much as long as you're getting good search traffic for your keywords.

What probably happened was one or more of the higher PR sites linking to you dropped for some reason and this cascaded to your site. I've had this happen to me before on some of my sites. Just get some more high quality, relevant, links and your PR will probably go back up at the next update.

I had a site that did the same thing, from PR 3 to a PR 2 , and I was puzzled as hell.. the only variable that had changed, as far as I know, is the traffic dropped a little.. I neglected it a little and I guess you can't do that.

Of course backlinks help too.. but that wasn't a variable that had changed, it was my traffic. So the mystery continues I suppose, but we just have to continue the big G journey.

I know where you're coming from.. one of my sites had a drop from PR 7 to 6 recently but that was due to using a host with bad uptime. Don't worry about it too much, it will pick back up eventually.

Ah Google .... seems you can never please them. I had a great insurance site with original content, lots of pages, yada-yada and it got indexed, de-indexed, sandboxed .....

I finally did a 4-figure flip and said "outta here baby".

Good luck with pleasing the Internet Godhead: Google (Personally I'm enjoying the lesser known Gods these days ... like Yahoo, MSN, Miva, Traffic Vance - there's a lot of internet out there)

Thanks for your comments. I do know that PR is virtually meaningless in the real world but it still stings to take a hit like that.

I also do my best to appear in "the rest of the internet out there" but, sad to say, the proportion of my visitors using Google has actually increased lately, from 60% to 65%! How I would love to see this statistic go in the other direction!

Google change their algorithm all the time, you just keep promoting your site and get traffic and sales, that's it!

May be there are some course that teach us increase ranking, anyone care to share?

I know that creating link bait and submit software or widget to get links are another good way to gain massive back links! You can try this method.

Or try to create a free wordpress theme.
