Advice on why my site no longer ranks in Google?

I have a site which I created in July which has steadily climbed to page 2 in Google (a couple of places short of page 1). I know a bit about SEO but this has completely got me stumped because I have done nothing dodgy but it is now ranked between 800 and 900!! It has been this way for over a week now.

- I have links from only relevant sites to my niche, from forums, blog comments and articles
- I don't write for the search engines with keyword stuffed articles
- It is a content rich site

The only thing I noticed when I checked over my site, was that I had the same paragraph of text in two different articles. I have since corrected this, but surely this can't be the reason??

I would really appreciate any feedback from anyone who can spare a few minutes to look over my site. Please PM me if you can offer any advice and I will forward you the URL

Thanks

Hey, I had a quick look and there doesn't seem to be any glaringly obvious reasons on page or off page. You might just have to give it some time to get back to page 2. Are there any messages in google webmaster?

I'll have a better look tonight if no one else has chimed in.

Thanks for taking a look at it. No messages in Google Webmaster at all.

And what about your anchor texts, how diverse are they?

Well, actually, what you consider legitimate links may be something else to Google. But ichl13 could be right, and you need to just wait and continue to build links (since there has been no warning in GWT).

Quite diverse. I usely mainly the URL as anchor text, my name (for blog comments) and one or two keyphrases.

There are two possible reasons that i can see.

    1. Blog comment is a pretty good way to link to bad neighbors especially when they are AA.
    2. Blog comment have a high tendency of creating over optimization.

Thanks for your input but I'm not sure if this is the reason. I use a a couple of different names when I make blog comments. Also the comments are on good quality blogs related to my niche.

I've just had a response in Google Webmaster which says "No manual spam actions found". I've gone through my site with a fine toothcomb and all I can find is the following..

    1) 2 of my pages had duplicate meta descriptions. I have now corrected this.
    2) While my anchor text is diverse, about 85% of my links go to my home page. Could this be a reason?

It is so frustrating because there is so much original content on this site and on the 1st and 2nd pages on Google there are some spammy looking sites with hardly any content at all!

    Any suggestions?

Could be, but there's no guarantee. At the same time, if your anchor profile is really diverse, yet most of those links are pointing to one and the same page, that could be a flag - why would people use such different anchors to link to the same content? But that's just my wild guess, only Google would know for sure.

Also it would be good to know how many keywords you're targeting, if you've got social signals to vouch for your site and whether you are in a competitive niche.

I think, your website spammed by panda, EMD or penguin update. So Please check in google webmaster when it was dropped and also check Google update date.
If domain dropped via EMD, then I will suggest to book new domain. If website spammed via Panda and Penguin then submit bad Link report and build high PR more backlinks.
It will come back as new links will cache. I will suggest more if you send me URL

If I may say, Panda v23 was released yesterday. But people have been saying that something's been going on for a week or so.
By the way, it's not accurate to say that Panda is only about duplicate content - it's about the quality of a website and how engaging it is. Again, what you think is quality content may not appear to be engaging/important enough to Google.
