hello warriors:

a friend of mine owns a mattress store in oregon and i have been helping him with his places seo as well as getting his company website ranked for local search.

he recently started a blog recounting how he got into the business and telling tales of the trade as well as personal reflections.

here is the blog: 2012 December « mattressmatters

just wondering if there is a way to use this blog to help his main site or his google places page get a little seo help from his ramblings?

thanks for any advice you may have to offer in advance. i have been very successful as far as his overall rankings but this blog stuff is out of left field for me. lol

He should write blog posts about districts/nearby suburbs/towns his store covers. The keyword target of course is (PRODUCT) (LOCATION). The text of the post, however, should be your standard consumer buyer's guide. The key is to engage flesh and blood readers while appealing to Google. He has to walk quite a tightrope. But sites do this all the time. It's all about working with useful and credibility-building content first and layering on structural elements for SEO. It would also help if he engages his readers by offering premiums/discounts for fan page actions and retweets.

tnanks for this.......he currently is not linking the blog to his site or place page in any way......so i assume some cleverly placed links sparingly used should be included in his blog? or at the end of each post a quick statement saying "michael is owner of mattress xxx in portland oregon....to find out more about him and his company please go to http://wwww.xxxxxxxxx. etc etc.....would this be a wise thing to do?

Hi there! I use blogs to help clients all the time. What I do, though, is always install the blog ON the main site. I use WordPress.ORG to set up the blog on the client site. That way the main site gets credit for fresh content each time a new blog is added. This helps with the main site's SEO.

In addition, I've found this technique very helpful: use an anchor text link or two within each blog post that links back to main site pages that feature those keywords (the keywords you use in the hyperlinks). This helps rank those site pages for their respective keywords.

Hope this helps! Best of luck to you!

Normally, i would tune meta tags, title tags and description that help friendly in search engine. For today blog platform, you can make this easier or just install some plugins and your problem solve.
