Do you backlink catagories?

I have looked online to see what others are doing and there is not much mentioned about backlinking catagories.

I do a few blog comments for traffic and backlinks. For those that get backlinks, do you also backlink your catagories or just stick to the individual posts? And how has that worked for you?

Thanks
Jeannie

Never created backlinks for categories. Would like to know if anyone have done this before.

To get backlink traffic by placing the end the comments but it depends on Google when it liked it or not ..
Besides it can also do a backlink on free sites then we retain the article concludes by recommending to the main site ...

    Thank you.

I am sorry to say Alexander that your comment was hard to understand and had nothing to do on backlinking catagories. If it was just to get your post count up, know that people on the forum would prefer to see something on topic.

I think part of the problem may be that English is not your first language. We all start somewhere. Keep practicing your English.

Jeannie it depends on the niche.

Building up the category page is really popular for ecommerce sites for example. Like if you sold blue topaz rings from 'imaginary jewellery company', you might have 5 different models of those rings. However, it would also be worthwhile to rank the category page of "blue topaz rings by imaginary jewellery company" in addition to the individual models.

In that particular case, you probably would build links to the category page as well.

Of course, with most blog/information niches, there isn't much of an added benefit to link your category page other than to diversify in Google's eyes a bit. I hope that helps.

    I don't. Doesn't look natural.

How many people see a category page and say "wow, this is an awesome page...I'm going to link to it now!"?

I've seen good Category pages worthy of a backlink, inc.com is one of the sites I read.

      Example:
      • hxxp://www.inc.com/growth-strategies

I also have traffic that builds links too my own Category pages, it's not like it's uncommon, a category is simply a web page with relevant content/pages/links.

BTW, the Adsense/SEO/PPC here on Warrior Forum is a Category page, I'm sure it has a few links.

Good point. But I'm sure 99% of their links are to their homepage or to content.

  • You can backlink to a category page. It will not harm your website. Actually, it would be beneficial to your site's SEO in general because, as webmasters we cannot control where or how others backlink to our sites. So, a backlink to a category page would make you backlink profile look more natural, in my opinion.

Thanks for your thoughts on this everyone. I think Yukon hit it on the head that it needs to be of good quality.

By the way, I have a couple catagories on a site that are getting traffic from listings in google. So I would say that the search engines see nothing wrong with it. Personally, I would rather point to individual posts, but I will take this traffic too. :-)

I would have an innerlink to a category for a couple of my pages. And I think it was affecting my pages because that category wasn't indexed. Therefore I feel as if I should create backlinks for it to get indexed =D Lol.

I create back links for my category pages as well. These pages are deep pages where it still needs to have back links as Googlebots are scraping every webpage of your website.

I run a couple of online directories, and I backlink the categories for those a lot. It has worked pretty well so far.

I have never linked to category pages. They are actually redundant.

After the updates of the algorithm of the giant search engine google, you must to maintain some quality of your back linking. You have to be linked back from that which have similar keywords issues. Otherwise the actual reason from back link to the search engine will be changed.

If the categories are silo'd well then I don't see why they shouldn't be linked or even attract natural links.

For example your category "best iphone apps" why would it not attract links from relevant places if the content is good.
