    I think it would be quite easy to get a page ranked near the top for this particular keyword phrase.

    You haven't provided all the data of the results for most of page 1, but the info you have given leads me to believe that it shouldn't be too difficult.

    You are probably starting from scratch so won't have the strength of an aged domain or PR rank, but with some relevant backlinking and social media exposure, I'd say you'd have a great shot at tapping into that organic traffic.

    How do we know the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd SERP position isn't Wikipedia, WSJ, IHOP (what?), etc...

    Check out if the anchor texts in the backlinks to the first page have the keyword in them.

    You don’t beat keywords, you beat websites. The information you have provided shows that website appearing for less competitive keywords. Check out the keyword profitability and then optimize your website for this keyword. If keyword is less competitive, it will be easy to outrank these websites.
