Do you use ad words when you're promoting a product as an affiliate?

I've seen a few post of people promoting products from CB and JVzoo. They said they're usng adwords for it.
Does people who makes product reviews for CB or JV earn a lot more sales when they also promote the product their affiliated with to click bank?
Because I've just started out on promoting CB and JV products.
So... How do you guys do it? Do advertise your hop link to the sales page to ad words? Or do you advertise your blog/site that contains your review of the product and your hop link to ad words?
Either way, how much does it usually cost you with ad words?
