Single page website, is it good now ?

Hello,

I want to create a portfolio website for myself, I have been in web development since 5 years, and yet I don't have a professional portfolio website. I get most of the work from odesk, freelancer and elance, so I never had the need to create a portfolio. But to target direct customers, I decided to create one.

I was thinking of creating a single page website, which would have all the content on it's home page, where the user can view the whole website without reloading the page. But I have seen some previous conversations here, some of them said it is ok to create single page sites, but some said, its better to create multiple pages websites.

According to the recent changes or trends in Google, do you think if I create a single page website, will it quality to rank higher in search engines ? or do you think it's better I go with the usual multiple pages websites.

    You could have a single page site, for the portfolio images, create a small image of each project. Then add a link pointing to a full page screenshot of each project with a link below the smaller portfolio image. This way you get a fast loading portfolio page & also get the benefit of SEO by having a 2nd page for each individual portfolio image.

    Example, If you have 20 portfolio images on the single page site then you'll have a total of 21 pages (index page + 20 full size image pages).

    Add a snippet of text for each full size image page, then point keyword anchor-text links back to the Index page for SEO.

    This will also help mobile traffic that's viewing your single page (Index page) save on data.

    Hi,

    It's easy enough to create and organize multiple pages using Wordpress, there's even a portfolio option. Go with an awesome homepage, but have other pages that both visitors and spiders can visit. Unless you only care to optimize for one or two terms, it can be difficult to rank a one page site (depends on your terms and competition also).
