I'm of the opinion that the tools that automatically create backlinks have lost some power. However, some of them have plenty of other uses. Scrapebox, for example. I use it almost daily to run massive PR checks, harvest hundreds of thousands of URLs based on keywords I choose, check the Alexa rankings of sites, generate keywords, etc. All of this pretty much automated.

But can you say for sure that they have made you any money?

What kind of tool you are looking for? If you're looking push button and start getting sells thing. Then you're in a wrong place.
Let me tell you. Every tool has advantages and disadvantages. But if you know how to use properly then you can get benefit from them.

Yes scrapebox is very useful tool, some people use it for bad things like "blog commenting spam" and some use it for good work like finding high pr niche related urls and then manually comment on them for better serps. Its all up to you.
