I'm looking to open some new sites about long-tail keywords I found in different niches, i'm wondering if I should go for a brand name , or I can still use EMD ?

What your thoughts?

Wow... Have you not checked this forum lately?

    EMDs are conceptually dead(minor exceptions)
Micro Niche Sites are slaughtered and basing an entire site on long string keywords is just dumb...

Try to build them on branded names not exact match domains...

You will see that your chances to get high in Google are better this way.

My advice to you is to buy a old , authorithy domain from Godaddy Auction, with a generic name and start building the website there.

After that you can target your website on any keyword due to title, meta description, meta keywords , content and anchors.

This is my advice to you!!

      Cheers

there is nothing like google is penalizing EMDs now as even i am having an EMD and it is working well in searches, but now google is not giving extra authority to these sites for the keyword, it is now exactly equal for the google if your website is EMD or any other name.

      Hi,

For me EMD still work with this conditions:

      100% unique and quality content
      100% related backlinks

PS - When someone quit an EMD in my niche i buy instant that domain.

      Good Luck!

The idea is that Google has retreat the EMD privilegies not to penalyze them.

I have one emd which is nr 1 from 3 years now and the EMD update does not move it, but even so if you optimize on page and anchor text on that EMD keyword your chances to get penalyzed is higher than a brand domain and you will get no particular privilegies in SERPS.

So that is why i suggested brandable names...

This is the point. You can still rank with EMD if you fulfill those conditions. People used to rank by choosing an EMD only without posting any useful content. Now, it is impossible.

EMD's will get you into trouble eventually. Going for brand name is better than EMD at his stage, and who knows what other updates might be released in 2013

I'd go for a brandable domain name. I had an EMD that lost page 1 rankings. I then set up a page for page 301 redirect to a new brandable domain name and the new domain came back to page 1 in about 3 weeks.

Purchase an EMD domain is a panic idea if you have good and unique content on website.
