What else to focus on in building web 2.0 sites?

Back in the day, there are huge lists of these sites. But I wonder what sites to focus time on for 2013.

I just created a post about the performance of these sites. I can tell you from recent experience, Blogger is doing okay, as well as Squidoo. With Squidoo of course you have to walk a tight rope with their TOS.

I've also been testing Xanga, Wordpress, Weebly, and Live Journal. I can't even seem to get Xanga pages indexed so I've all but given up. Wordpress and Weebly get indexed, but it seems to be hit and miss, and they fall way back in the serps.

Squidoo and Blogger get indexed blazingly fast and the outgoing links start showing up in my backlinks reports for target sites within a week or two.

My favorite over Squidoo is Tumblr. It's easy to get the pages to rank with the reblog feature.

This is only my opinion, but...

Never put your success in the hands of another.

This means that your 2.0 posts don't belong to you. They can be taken from you at any moment.

Everyone thinks it won't happen to them but then when it does they're ticked off.

      Just keep this in mind.

Anyone trying to build their brand should create every web2.0 site available using your brand name and adding content about your brand/money site. It's smart SEM.

Short of creating your own blog network which can be de-indexed by Google in an instant, you are in fact putting your entire fate in the hands of anonymous bloggers and webmasters to link to your site.

I would argue by relying on 2.0 properties you have an endless source of pages you can publish to ensure quality content and take control of your own inbound links, or at least give them a healthy boost.

Even I believe Tumblr is really good and helps a lot. I can definitely give it more marks than Squidoo in terms of SEO.

I've been working with Tumblr lately, and though I love the ease of the site itself, I'm getting very poor results when it comes to getting pages indexed.

Have you found this ? I don't mean pages falling back in the serps, I mean NO index at all. Searching for the URL itself brings up zip in both Google and Bing.

Is there something I'm missing about the administration or configuration of Tumblr pages to get them indexed and to rank ? Does Tumblr take a particularly long time to get indexed? Or do I simply need to load up each page with backlinks to get indexed?

By comparison I've not had this problem with Blogger. Virtually any page I create will show up in Google within 48-72 hours.

Typepad and Tumblr are another good web 2.0 which you can use. They also index quite fast.

Nothing beats having your own domain. Use Squidoo, Blogger, Tumblr, and Hubpages, etc. to link back to there. Your money site.

I'd use these sites as a higher tier of links to your main site. Whether general information or a soft sell to your sales page, they work great to piggyback PR with a dash of authority put in. Never use them only, get your own domain if you can.

Squidoo, Hubpages, HowTo, Instructables. These are all good sites to build a solid Tier 1 backlink with. It's not difficult, but it is time consuming. Do you have any more specific Qs about this?

Is Tumblr best for picture post / blogging? All featured microblogs on the front page of Tumblr are photo blogs.
