Hello Warriors!

My first new year day has begun really good. My 3 months old website has ranked on the first page for extremely competitive keyword.

Some facts first:
1. 3 months old website with PA/DA: 37/27
3. Not an EMD domain (keyword is not even in the domain)
2. 88% (Extremely Competitive) keyword difficulty according to SEOMoz
3. 1,770,000,000 search results without quotes
4. 6,200,000 search results with quotes

Position in Google on 1st January 2013:
1. Ranked 8th in Google global (google.com/ncr) (it was ranked 12th yesterday, so I hope it will increase)
2. Ranked 15th in Google US (and still increasing)

Competitions in first page are big sites that has mostly PR6-9! (and I have PR1). Most has PA of 80+ and DA of 90+. One even have DA of 100 and another DA of 99.

So the conclusion is, it is possible to rank for a very competitive keyword. It is my believe that any keyword, no matter how hard it is

How did I do this?
1. As I always said, Google loves good contents and regular update. My site get a new unique content almost everyday.
2. Social media is important for authority! I created Twitter, Facebook oage, Google+ page, Pinterest etc. for the site.
3. Building link variety! If I buy an SEO service, I make sure that it has link varieties or can be combined with others.
4. I build link slowly, no bulk spam like 10000 comments spams or 10000 wiki links.
5. I don't do most link building myself. There are so many good affordable link building services.
6. From the very beginning I set my eye to get authority. I did not even care if it will get ranked on page 1 for this keyword, my plan was building link for this keyword to get authority so Google will rank the content (not the home page) for other keywords and it worked (but still can better, it's only a 3 months old site)

2-how many uv this keyword get in month
3- what the % of dofollow backlinks to nofollow
4-what are the source of the backlinks you get
5-about the social media are this natural or you followers and fans for it
6-how you monetize your site (adsense, amazon, or other way)

To answers some of your questions.
      1. I am not even doing on page optimization, the only thing I do it to include the keyword on the title tag, no more.
      2. I don't know, site just got on page 1. If you mean how many searches, it not that much (about 8k+ global). As I mention I don't even care if I get rank for this keyword, I want the contents to get ranked by getting authority for home page.
      3. I don't know, never care about this.
      4. A lot sources, social media, blogs, web2.0, I don't even know it all.
      5. Some naturals and some not, just to boost
      6. adsense and amazon for now.

    Thats good news.

I'm in a small offline niche, and just started a business a couple weeks ago.
I got a site ranking on page 1 before but it took 8 months to do, and was a nightmare. I think I was doing a lot of stuff wrong as I had no real plan.

This is the plan I want to use now:

Do you think thats a good model to follow?
Or should I focus more on social media and boosting my accounts? Because I already do that with youtube and noticed it definitely helps.

I just want to know what has the most power in SEO, so I can focus my time better.
    Thanks - Red

That strategy could surely work but you need to add more link varieties like Yahoo answers, Doc sites, edu, gov sites.

Up until know what I see work really good are high quality links, those are like blog post in high pr sites, edu/gov links, dmoz listing etc. Also the best links are links from sites with the same/related niches.

No offense but none of those things listed matter.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade but are you sure that your actually ranked & not seeing personalized SERPs? Are you seeing traffic for the ranked page/keyword?

I always turned off personalized search, and I even logged out I still see the same result and I even check from different pc's with different ip and even US proxies to check. And I did see traffic for the keyword but as I mention it just happened today so there is not much traffic yet.

Also those things are mentioned for information and some does matter. When I mention it is difficult I mean it. I had multiple SEO services declined my keyword saying that it's impossible to rank. The sites in the top 20 mostly are big famous site that has really high authority, aged and I am sure most people know them. As example, engadged.com and gizmodo.com, both has PR 8 and famous and you know? I rank higher than Gizmodo for that keyword, at least in Google global.

Try running CCleaner (free) to clear the browser history, cookies, etc... then do your keyword search in Chrome Incognito.

I'm not doubting your keyword is tough competition, just saying things like SERP result numbers don't mean anything for SEO, your only competition is on page #1 in the SERPs, page #97 (example) isn't important.

            Ok, cool.

Just curious, what position on page #1 is your page ranked? I have a keyword that gets good traffic, position #1 is getting right at 50% of the keyword traffic according to WMT. Just saying there can be a huge difference in traffic volume If your ranked #1, as opposed to ranking #8 (example).

It's actually ranked 8 right now and you are correct that there is huge difference. I am not sure if I can get to rank 1 but I hope so.

Do a search (Chrome Incognito) for: intitle:"keyword" site:domain.com for the top 3 ranked pages/domains & see how serious they are about your keyword.

If it's a keyword phrase search the whole phrase, then search again to see how many times the individual keywords appear in their page titles.

They can still have a tough to beat external link campaign ranking their page, but the search above will help show If they're serious about ranking multiple/similar pages.

I thought the same thing. That's a ton of traffic...but if it's freebie or pure how-to traffic it's not worth very much.

Either way, congrats on your success.

Thanks, well it's not freebies and how-to, it's more news related traffic. But as I mention it doesn't have a lot of searches amount according to adwords, only 8k+ global, but I don't care as I am doing SEO for this keyword to get authority so that the contents that has much more keywords varieties ranked well in Google. And this, for a small part is achieved.

About 3 months as the site is about 3 months old. I started building backlinks from the first day but the first 2-3 weeks really slow and mostly manually done by myself.

      Congrats Cesarian..

I believe it is possible to get to page 1 in the Google search results with the techniques that your are using. The fact that you are trying to gain authority and not the ranking is a good mindset. Social Authority is the best part of it I believe as it the most secured technique that Google can't touch with any types of update regarding SEO.

Great work, I don't mean to sound negative but be careful on the techniques that you are using. If you over do it and Google do another update this year then you could be in trouble BUT I wish you the very best and a great long term future for your website.
