5 SEO Staples In 2012 - Top Predictions For 2013

Knowing how SEO has evolved in 2012, what are your calculated predictions about 2013?

At SEO Cognition, we feel that the top highlights in 2012 are/were:

#1 Quality Unique Content
#2 Social Media
#3 AuthorRank/ Google Agent Rank
#4 Guest Blog Posting
#5 On-page Optimization

Will the algorithms maintain the same metrics going into 2013? Or will there be other factors that are going to play a huge part in an algo shift/update?

Love to stir up some great conversation! Happy New Year ladies and gentleman!

Thanks,

Josh McCoy

I think that videos on YouTube will dominate the free advertising medium.

For paid, I think that PPC will dominate too.

My prediction is that this will be a relatively quiet year in SEO. One animal update...but nothing like Penguin.

Matt Cutts and the gang have cleared out most of the junk from the SERPs...now it's time to refine things.

Well let me tell ya, it's all about AuthorRank. It's all about becoming a subject matter expert in your field. Here's more about AuthorRank/ Google Agent Rank if you'd like to learn more. Google definitely is going to throw you a bone if you cultivate relationships within your niche on Google Plus.

These are correct.. I'm just hesitant about Guest Blog Posting. If you think about it, it looks like it is a new blog network. Although the posts are moderated properly, what happens is that there will be too many outgoing links exactly the same with the blog networks. Anyway 1,2,3 and 5 are the ones that we need to check this 2013 in terms of SEO.

I totally understand why you have hesitation about guest blogging. I think it's still relevant, but in some regard it could possibly end up like article marketing. It's just another variable that one should use caution with (sparingly). Anybody ever heard the phrase:

"a little dab will do ya?" Well, this applies.

Social signals will likely have an increasing role to play. What do people think would be a good ratio or number of FB Likes or Tweets to get for your web page/site for every 100 backlinks generated?

That's exactly why any search engine would be a fool to allow social sites to have any effect on the SERPs. They're already fighting a war with people that count links, why would they add more headaches & allow people to easily buy Likes, etc...? Doubtful social will play a role in ranking pages.

I am gonna focus more on Social Media in 2013. Although Content is the king after all, but even that content will require social sharing to come into people's eyes.

I would like to go with the below three

    1. On Page
    2. Quality Content
    3. Social Signals

With these 3 for sure you will get good rank.

2011 Panda - unique content that copyscape 100% and readable
2012 Penguin - various of backlink kinds and various author texts
2013 maybe combination between search engine results and social signals

I agree with a social increase because these are the most natural links. I think Google will next aim to remove link networks as much as possible.

Yes as Matt Cutts says again and again about content, so it is going to be on priority and also social media going to play an important role to get top ranking in major search engine result pages.

When Matt Cutts talks about social media, he's primarily talking about Google plus. Google will definitely throw you a bone if you participate in their network over other social media avenues. I'm sure the algorithm leans a little bit thicker in this direction.

    #1 Quality Unique Content
    #2 Social Media
    #3 AuthorRank/ Google Agent Rank
    #4 Guest Blog Posting
    #5 On-page Optimization

Author Rank and Google+ will be THE main factors in 2013, along with top quality content of such established authors.

Google WILL attempt to force even more people into using G+, Google Agent rank, so this will increase - and I am willing to predict that Guest blogging will see some changes since it's entirely abused right now by many.

#2 is going to disappoint alot of people because they are already hyping it up more than google will ever use it. Guest posting is something Google will actually target because they have totally different ideas about what that should be compared to marketers and see alot of it just as another form of blog networks

#3 is no doubt in my mind on the money. Author rank is the future of white hat SEO and is the most likely thing that Google will combine with Social media.

ALL SEos should be learning about authorrank

      Interesting post.

Great content will never be punished. Google has said itself numerous times that its interest is in providing an engaging and useful user experience. Guest posting, if done correctly provides this.

Almost any area of SEO can be looked upon as potential problem areas, social media, backlinks etc. As mentioned earlier, sites like fiverr provides cheap and nasty options that will be found out and punished by Google and really is the epitome of what is wrong when looking for shortcuts and the wrong way to do SEO.

However, the term "Content is King" has never been more relevant and those who have followed that path or start on that path, will reap the rewards.

The most discussed predictions are: 1. Google Author Rank markup will be the basis of ranking.
    2. Guest posting will be devalued by Google. 3. Social signals will highly affect the SERPs.
    4. Highly increasing personalized search results will be recognized. 5. Technical parameters such as page titles and descriptions will have greater bearing in SEO.

I agree with the list, but after doing SEO for a while now, I realized making "predictions" gets you in trouble. Its best to react to factual statistics/results, but that probably goes without saying...

Unique content will always be a staple, and the amount of backlinks your getting will also always be important as far as I'm concerned. We've all heard the cliche's "1 high quality backlink equals 10 low quality backlinks", and while that's true, there absolutely MUST be a lot of diversity in your approach...

If your using #1 on your list, you better use 2,3,4, and 5 as well...

Absolutely Vinny. I think predictions are fun, but it's just a guessing game.

The best method is to look at the trends in regard to what is working now. Diversity is first and foremost key.

I nearly puked when you said quality unique content.

I have a site that has ranked with pure link spam all of 2012 with less than 100 words on page and massive ads.

Oh yes, i guess i am an outlier.
