Here is an excellent tool that will help you with your keyword research. It shows you the Google competition of your keyword, and the actual number of visitors the website in position #1 receives per day:

https://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/gtrends/

Just thought I'd share it with you.

Can we also check local search results with this application? I am familiar with using Google Keyword Tool which I use often for all keyword research I do, and it is free. What makes this software good if there is a free one that gives the result that I want?

Why? I find it to be an excellent tool. What do you prefer and why?

I prefer something useful. Market Samurai gives you no useful information about your competition.

I can get the same data from the Google Keyword Took and Majestic much faster.

All that other junk like SEOC, title tags, PR, etc... all useless crap. Tells you nothing about the internal links structure, the quality of the links, what keywords the best links are targeting, etc.

I'd rather import a few databases into SpyGlass and really get a look at what the competition looks like.

You should also run a free phrase search (the term "in quotes") by Google to get a rough idea of how competitive a keyword is, apart from the Wordtracker tool. Too many people may be creating content or sites for a niche compared to regular visitors searching for the niche, depending on the case. A keyword with just 5,000 monthly searches may have 10,000,000 results come back from a phrase search, making it way too competitive.
