Hi,

when I was searching the web for this keyword I came across a very interesting blog post about a guy who managed to get 100,000 visitors
without building any backlinks to it within 9 months.

I left some comments there asking how many articles he had posted
to that site, he replied with around 1500

Ok, that seemed a bit too high for me and assuming every post just gets 3 visitors per day it would equal to more than 100,000 visitors per month.

However, then he started a new project and I dont know if this was a typo or not but he wrote that for the new site he also achieved 100k visitors but with just 15 articles in total??? Here is the blog post and he tells that on comment #89:
How To Grow a Website to Over 100,000 Organic Visitors Per Month | SEO Nick

One interesting statement by him:
"one piece of content can created tens of thousands of visitors, it all depends on how you build it and what the targets are."

What do you think is his "secret"???
#100 #backlinks #visitors

lol, it depends on where he's posting also.

Articles to sites like hubpages and ezinearticles won't do much. But if he can post to news sites and sites like forbes.com then of course he could be getting that much traffic

Also, his post says he's working on a book.... He may just be building some hype in order to sell it. But if not, then that's pretty awesome

I think with 1500 articles, he has answered the question how he did. If one can write 1,500 articles in well research keywords one can achieve that.

you have misunderstood that. He built those articles on his OWN site!

yes, but in his second project he just built 15 articles and also got 100k visitors, so he actually did something different here...

If you do a quick analysis of that one post he has:

    405 tweets & 1 stumble.
103 comments so he's getting traffic

He's doing something right I think. Another indication that what he's doing is working is......wait for it.....wait....you found his post too.

yes, i found his post too, on google, searching for the exact term "100,000 visitors per month"

you refer to his blog with those tweets, but he got his 100k visitors to another website in another langauge: japanese!

I don't think this can be real... But, lets assume he is using email marketing to promote his website! You won't build even a SINGLE backlink, but you can get thousand of visitors. But now... The problem is that he is getting these visitors again and again... Well, maybe the power of "from mouth to mouth" or... I don't know. Pretty strange for me!

    I did this too..

And got natural backlinks made for me.

All you who think you need backlinks for traffic aren't correct. On a large, high quality, content filled site.. backlinks are the least of your worries.

His site will have thousands by now, made naturally.

    Think: Content is King.

Backlinks are for people WHO KNOW what they're doing, for those that don't; go for content, otherwise SEO is your complete and utter waste of time.

In his post he doesn't mention anything related to email marketing.

And yes, content is king but I think if everything is really correct what that blog
owner said, then content is not king, it is emperor!

Again: He says that he reached 100k visitors with his second project with
just 15 posts! And his traffic soared to 4000 visitors/day within days not months!

      I built a blog.

      Researched keywords.

Wrote 440 posts over a period of 7 months.

      60,000 unique visitors a month.

They went after longtail keywords, & expanded on any decent traffic keywords.

Then he goes on to describe a silo, without actually saying the word silo:
Link in sub-directories feed authority to parent directories.

A perfect example of this is local sitelinks for popular categories; tertiary directories with the most links and content which cause their upstream sub-directories to receive authority translating into higher rankings and local sitelinks.
Sounds like someone has been reading the SEO forums.

I see people posting on this SEO forum that think their content is great, found one yesterday (useless crap). One guys great content is another guys crap. Just saying the so called case study isn't a case study unless they show the site/URL of the so called great content.

Only some of the articles brought the most traffic.

It's all about hanging on in there, forgetting about theory and getting stuck in.

Just submit the RSS to directories after about the 20th post then keep posting.

Usually these success stories leaves some important parts out of sight.

We don't know how much visitors from which country, what niche etc.
For example I used to have "counter strike" related website which ranked well in India, Pakistan, Vietnam and other similar countries. I got around 300,000 visitors a month. impressive right?

Here's the worst part. Nearly no CPA offers for these countries and Adsense pays $0,01 for click. I got around 15-30k clicks a month and I made around $400 from this website. A lot? No! Because this website required a good VPS and other maintenance so I made like $200 in profit.

Still good but it's better to say "300,000 visitors a month" than "Duck (with F) I made only $200"

I ended up selling this website right before Panda/Penguin kicked in which nearly killed that website.

I hope you get my point. There's definitely something more going on behind the scene.

Nick- Just read your article on the experiment but there's no mention of revenue or cost. It sounds like it was a team effort and a lot of time was devoted to drilling down on every aspect of subject and then following through with appropriate action.

Creating a name for yourself is always good and picking a trend or new product is a great way to find high traffic subject matter.

That being said it doesn't always translate directly to revenue.

What do you think is his "secret"???
My newest site has over one million visitors without building backlinks. I do have some natural backlinks due to quality content and over 10,000 pages. Getting 100K with 15 articles is likely short-term viral luck or a hidden method. That is not a basis to build a business unless you don't really care about success and just hope to get lucky.

So while you can get a lot of traffic without building links, keep in mind this won't necessarily work in every niche. You still have to be selective about that. Just because a few people do this in a few niches doesn't mean it's replicatable in every niche.

I also have several articles with over 5000 visitors and some over 10K. But you can't just do that with every single article. You have to think about averages, not high and low extremes.
