Google Disavow Tool - What's this all about?

Does anybody tell me what's this all about?

I've done a search but it seems unclear to me...

Thanks!

Regards.

It allows you to tell Google not to count backlinks to your site.

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!

Google Disvow tools, firstly if you have the site in your google webmaster tools then you can go and check all the links that is pointing towards your site, from them any dead links as well spam links you can keep it in the downloaded file. Once they are being downloaded, all you do, is to log in to webmaster tools: go to disvow> select the url address> upload the links which you have download to disvow them and finish.

But mostly it would be great to manually remove links which is of spam quality.

    Regards,
    Swrajit

It's a fairly useless tool that real webmasters should never have
to use. And if it's used at all, very sparingly. I'd stay away
      from it myself.

If you think it will help your site's rankings, think again.

What should you spend your time on? Creating as many good
      links as humanly possible.

That's great information Paul. I truly think it's a snitching tool for Google taking tabs on SEO's, or for websites that have made some bad decisions with backlinking.

Sometimes, spam or bad inbound links may damage the reputation of your website.. To tell Google, that you haven't built these links, you can use this tool, so Google will not punish you for this. But the tools has not been proved significant yet. Use it only, if you receive any warning from Google for bad links, otherwise don't bother to think about it. Think about building links, it is hard, not about neutralizing them..

What Google wants you to do is let them know of ALL the links you created. So if we're being generous you probably earned 10% of the links naturally and the rest you've either created them yourselves or paid for it.

Google's original algorithm is based on links and still is today, they just cant get away from that, hence all the animal updates.

It is a tool that allows you to deny the bad back links that you have.

There's no doubt that some webmasters are excited about the potential Google's new tool that allows for removing the negative valuation associated with low value inbound back links. However, before you dive in the start pasting together lists of links to submit for Google's consideration using the tool, there are a few weakness you'll want to be aware of.

Small Mistakes can have major consequences
Identifying diseased links is a time consuming process
Disavowing links may have no impact on your site's performance

It's a simple tool for seo, if you don't like any spammy or naughty links to your site, You can remove it from your website, before this it was not possible. As Matt Cutts said; Most of the webmaster depressed with spammy links and for that reason their site got penalized by google, that's why they created this Disavow Tool.

I must agree with Paul. It is not the silver bullet you might be looking for to get you back up the rankings after a penalty.

In VERY rare instances someone would have gone to the trouble to build up enough bad links and crap pointing at your site to make any difference.

If something blew up with your site's performance it is more than likely something you did and you know you did it.

Concentrate on building high quality in terms of content, links and social interaction...

The Google Disavow tool was introduced in mid october. It is really great as it helps us tell Google that it not count low quality links while assessing your website. Complete details here Official Google Webmaster Central Blog: A new tool to disavow links

  • Google disavow tool is a joke. I recommend NOT using it. Focus your efforts on link building instead.
