Google Search, Vs. Keyword Tool Data

So when performing a Google search, using exact anchor text from the keyword tool, rarely do I find the exact anchor text on page one of search results. Often I find variations, and in some cases the anchor text is not even mentioned. Why is this? THX.

  • Lutherlars,

Are you saying that in the documents served on the first page of results you are not seeing the keyword term or phrase as anchor text in the document? If you just mean you don’t see the word, there could be a lot of other reasons the results showing up first are ranking and don’t have the keywords in the document. Are you sure those sites didn’t have the keywords in their architecture (i.e. Title tag, meta description, etc)? If those websites have keyword terms or variations that are used as anchor text in backlinks leading to them then they will rank for queries using those terms. Google also serves documents that have terms related to your query.

Here is a good write-up on the topic,

I'm just surprised that the title tags on page 1 sites rarely contain the exact anchor text that is found when using the keyword tool. I guess it really hits home for me the importance of not only focusing on one keyword to a page.

There are a lot of related keywords that Google will consider to be equivalent.

For example, if you search for:

    blue cars

    Google will know that

    blue vehicles

is the same thing, so can treat both keywords as roughly the same.

I agree with you, Google will show the related data as well. If you want to see the exact keyword, you can try putting the keyword in double quotes ""
