How to check website authority?

    You can check out website authority by looking at how many pages their website has. Also checking the PR will help you figure out if a site is authority.

    1. Authority sites have generally very high ranking on Google for your industry or primary keywords.

    2. Websites which authority sites frequently link out to, can also be considered authoritative.

    3. Websites which are talked about a lot in your industry are generally authoritative. You can find such sites through industry blogs, industry magazines and industry news publishing sites.

    4. Websites with heavy user engagement (like lot of comments, reviews, ratings, page views, heavy users’ activity or large membership base) in your industry can also be considered to be authoritative.

    5. Authority sites generally have very high Page Rank (PR >=6).

    6. Authority sites generally have very strong back link profile which you can determine through tools like linkdiagnosis.com

    7. Authority sites generally have high domain moz rank (>=6) which you can determine through tools like linkscape.

    8. Authority sites have back links from large number of root domains which can again be determined through tools like linkscape.

      So the higher the page authority is the better? Also can you determine a page authority by how many page a website has? Hope thats not a dumb question

    What does "authority" even mean? With that said , as much as Rand and others love tosay otherwise, PR is still the best metric (albeit still not a good one).

      I can't agree with you... Authority is MUCH more important... You can get a PR8 backlink with a LOW authority and this backlink is JUST a waste of time (or it won't help your website a lot...) while if it has High Authority, then it's worth more than this PR8 backlink... This was just an example!

    This thread is in the SEO forum so I assume you mean SEO authority.

    A quick page title check will usually give you a good idea If the competition site is serious about the keyword, example:
    intitle:"keyword" site:domain.com

    I believe is when you paste your domain URL in Google search engine and press enter. Then it should show your domain on top and with site links.

    So has soon as you see it that means site links showing in Google then you can assume your site is authority site but not high authority site.

    Then you can make up your find to fully focus on developing that website with articles and articles with good information

        You can use OpenSiteExplorer's Domain Authority (DA) score. Also, AHRefs has a similar score that is helpful. Also, sites with a very low Alexa score are generally authoritative. These wouldn't be the only factors but they are helpful to get a feel for a site's authority.
