What's the SEO value of related posts plugins?

Hi all,
I've been wondering; I use various related posts plugins like;
WordPress › nrelate Related Content « WordPress Plugins and
WordPress › Cross-Promotion Content Recommendations by Engageya « WordPress Plugins
to show thumbnails at the foot of my posts.

Other than looking good and keeping readers on my site for a longer time, are there any additional positive SEO effects from these? obviously linking your posts to older posts and other related posts is positive to SE rankings, but do these do this job (or any other) as well?

Appreciate your replies.

    When used in conjunction with Posts from category, you can build a pretty strong silo site with it. Apart that, I wouldn't really bother. Do the linking in the content and make it flow naturally.

    Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!

      Hi, could you be more clear , what do you mean by saying "in conjunctions with posts from category"? I see that on your site you don't use any related posts suggestions plugin.
