How many links per day

How may links on average should I build to NEW niche / authority website per day?

I will vary it a bit between 0-X every day

The top ranking site currently has anywhere from 300-500 links to the main domain

Is 10 link on average too low or too much?

It doesn't matter how many links you build. Just be consistent.

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!

Not sure about that. Sometimes content goes viral and you could get 200+ backlinks in one day when your site might naturally get 7 per month.

I've had content go viral... it's an awesome feeling

I gave you a thanks Icematiks because you are talking about something that many people cannot notice because of their situation. One of my niche's is extremely brutal. Yet there is a guy, who ranks for pages that seem preposterous!

He will have 1% or less for the keywords he ranks for sometimes. I find myself asking "How does he do it"? Never have I seen a keyword packed article. But what I see is someone giving a "better user experience" than most everyone else. He goes out of his way for people to find what they are looking for, as he is laid back about everything else. Shocking!

He does have lot's of backlinks, and he must have used the scrapers etc early on. But now he coasts in a very difficult environment

So, I am glad to have someone discuss this. Ice I will also try your advice of peeling off the spun crap I added. I had a PR 5, after that I went to 1. I guess it wouldn't hurt to lose those. Also, I have almost a million trackbacks!!! Ouch! Are these also hurting me? I have since turned them off. But I have to do surgery to get them off my site.

      Any suggestions?

      Thanks
      mulesmurf.

Build more links than what are dropping off.

If you build 10 links on day 1 and 6 or them are dropped then build 7+ the next day.

That's the newbie friendly way though. Just focus on high pr links at first and wait to see how many stick. Once you get a list of the ones that stick then blast those links with more links. Pyramid them so they get more link juice.

I would not try to build links where you focus on High Page Rank. You will end up with 1,500 HPR ans 50 Low Page Rank. This doesn't happen in the real world and Google knows it. This is like a baby Boa taking down a Gazelle before it took down a rabbit!

To me if you are a Page Rank 1-2 site get links from 0-3. I would like to hear contrasting points of view.
      Thanks

In my opinion (and many others)...

It's not about how many links you are building a day.

You need to stop focusing on those things and start putting efforts into getting people to your website via other means.

You want to make money, create good content, and then market that content. Don't just go about building "backlinks" all day long and wasting your day away. Instead focus on getting people to your website TODAY. If you do that, you'll be headed towards long-term and short-term success.

Well, you should start to build links slowly for a new site to appear natural. But there is something interesting in all this link building stuff andit is how Google indexed links and how frequent. For instance, you build 10 links today but big G will not index all the links at the same time today.

10 backlinks per day in the first week is reasonable, then you can use SENuke and other tools to automate the process.

I respectfully disagree with others about it not making a difference how many you build, just to build them consistently.

Consistency is a key, but it's not natural for a new site to start getting 100 links a day.

I like to start off small - 10 or so a day. And then ramp that up as the site matures.

And make sure that your links have a diversified anchor text - don't just link with your keyword. That will hose your site. Use your keyword occasionally, but other phrases the majority of time as that would be more natural ranking.

People here that have put a number on it... what do you think would happen if a new site suddenly got 1000s of links, but they're all from authority sites like wikipedia, google, bbc news, theguardian etc? by your theory the website should probably be deindexed soon.

I don't mean to point out signatures, but since we are talking about links and backlinks specifically, your signature is a great example of what not to do.

11 links to the same website, multiple being the same page, and extreme overuse of anchor text is not the way to go about it.

So to claim slow and steady, when you are in fact, spamming backlinks directly to your website, just seems kinda funny.

Anyways, just my analysis because of the topic at hand.

A great option could be tiered backlinking. That way you only get a handful of backlinks pointing to your website and good ones.

Also, social signals are really helpful nowadays.

It's important to act natural in your link building process. Build backlinks consistently. May be 10-12 everyday. Mix of dofollow, nofollow. Be steady, don't expect something overnight.
