Adwords Keywords With Little to No competition..

I'm trying to rank for a 2 word keyword, there is only one other person bidding on it but for some reason they keep out ranking me... it seems like most of the time im 2nd and they are first and I cant figure out why..

My ad's have an 8/10 quality score, I set the max CPC at $3.00, even though the average CPC is only about $0.20, I have more keywords in my ad description than them and a more specific, targeted landing page. I have the keyword set up so that it is the only keyword in the ad group and set to exact match:
e.g. [key word]

Any reason why they would be out ranking me? The only thing I can think of is my landing page has a lightbox pop up with an aweber opt-in form, could the landing page still be the problem even though I have an 8/10 QS?

Or could it be my daily budget?

Thanks

    Brian,

I'm no expert on google adwords that for sure, but which has the 80% score your ad or your landing page? You're referring to both that has that score and I would say that only one has that score.

Is your landing page a one page opt in or sales page?

My other thought is, if you're second than isn't that good enough, or are you just curious as to why you aren't first w/such a high bid?

Also, does your pages contain these items:

    +Contact Us Page
    + Site Map file
    + Privacy Policy Page
+ External Links to your site

I didn't know there were 2 different quality scores? The one I was referring to is the one that comes up next to the keyword in the ad group

I'm just curious because its a very tiny niche with no competition and the only other person bidding on the keyword is someone I dont think knows too much about internet marketing and its been frustrating me why they are coming up first.

Maybe because their adwords campaign is older than mine..

Oh and it is a sales page with a lightbox that pops up over the sales page offering a discount for email address. The sales page also has a navigation bar at the top linking back to the home page, faq page and contact page.

        Hi BryanB55,

My guess is that your competitor has a higher QS than yours. One of the key factors is your CTR. If his ads are getting higher CTR than yours then it's more profitable for AdWords to position his ad in a higher position.

Another possibility is that he is using exact match only and you are using phrase or broad match. Or, you may have more than one keyword in your ad group and the other keywords are bringing you ad group average down.

Without seeing the structure of your account, the keywords, ad text and landing page, it would be hard to narrow it down for you.

There is only one QS (well, only one displayed in adwords) - if you've got 8/10 and they're still appearing higher than you then they've probably got a 9 or a 10
