Is it common knowledge that dofollow edu links and links from other major authoritative sites pass no link juice in comment sections... or am I just late at finding this out?

EDU links are good to rankings and to get a push in Google. Also if you are building links for a education, career related website, it will be great to get some edu links.

Yeah, edu links are something that you should pay attention to, if you are really looking to make a great SEO strategy! But, do NOT spam .edu websites/blogs. This is REALLY important!!!

Edu comments may not pass link juice but they still affect your SERPs so they are still worthwhile.

.edu backlinks plays a big role to boost the ranking of a website. .edu and .gov sites are loved by google and any backlinks from those sites are loved by google too.

    Concerning article post comments:

From testing that I've done, EDU and some other authoritative sites don't have the ability to pass link juice to other sites. Even if the link resides on a high PR page.

The testing I did, did not increase the page rank of the linked page and did not increase the SERPs of the page... so why do people say EDU links are so good?

Most likely because most people on this forum just repeat what they've heard works, without actually doing any testing and finding out for themselves.

Dont compare authority links with EDU because it is totally different for what we assume. authority sites like wikipedia, top social networks and some hi 5 forums.

I agree, wasn't insinuating all authority links are worthless because there most certainty not. But ones that seem to not regulate comments tend to pass no link juice. Or at least a few that I tested.

Am I the only one who thinks .EDU and .GOV links are nothing special?

In fact they're so diluted and spammed I honestly think they might be some of the worst websites to get links from.

Yeah I'm sure that .GOV site is naturally linking to your hair drier website

If I were you I wouldn't worry about .gov or .edu links at all if you get some you get some... They're not as special as everyone makes them out to be

No, you are not the only one, but no matter how many times any of us try to dispel this myth, it just keep hanging around. It's like a rash that won't go away.

The only people that will try to convince you that EDU and GOV links are anything special are the people selling them.

Nope, not nearly the only one with brains. But just look at all the ridiculous
replies. These people are just following rats down a sewer.

(I don't think half these people could repeat what they write in
front of a mirror and keep a straight face.)

All you can do, is shake your head in pity. Move on. This myth will
      never die.

.edu links that ARE GOOD, are no better than a .info THAT'S GOOD.

People just think that because .edu is a fairly rare extension, and
you must be an educational entity in the US to actually get one,
that somehow that's make them all special.

I've said it like this many times. I guess I will again.

The NHL and hockey in general, is full of great and good players
from Canada. So, if the same logic held, if I was building a hockey
team, I would just go up to Canada, get 20 people off the street,
and BAM! I must have made a great hockey team!

Fat chance. Because Canada has more than its share of good
hockey players in no way, shape, or form, means being Canadian
makes you a great hockey player.

Being a .edu does not in and of itself make it a good link.

I guarantee you this. There are far more .coms that have authority
and power than there are .edu's in existence.
