Hey I need help deciding on a domain name. It is all based on SEO.

I know it is best to have the keyword in the domain name but my question is does it have to be an exact match or can it be a partial match.

Like for example if you had a site called---- dreamingsymbols dot com

and a site called-------------------------- dreamsymbols dot com

which one would rank better for the keyword "dream symbols"?
Does it even make a difference? I know the search engines will pick up on the "dream" in dreaming but is the domain with the exact word "dream" better?

Sorry if that is confusing but considering you all know so much Im guessing you know what i mean!

Honestly, those two domains are so close, it probably doesn't matter that much. If you point enough links at the "dreaming" one, it'll rank just fine. Ideally you'd want an exact match, but if that shorter one isn't available, the longer one should do just fine.

The other thing to keep in mind is that this sort of keyword match isn't the end-all, be-all of SEO ranking. For example, I have an old site I barely update or do anything with that's an exact match for a popular niche, yet it doesn't rank #1 because other site have better SEO, more links, etc. It DOES show up on page 1 though and for that site, that's good enough for me.

    Hope that helps,

I don't think the domain name is all too important when it comes to ranking on adwords or other ppc sites. You need to get good keywords that are significant to the website you are directing prospects to. That and have an excellent headline which will grab the prospects you are looking for and give them a sense of 'missing out' unless they check out your ad.

thanks for the help... yes the two domains I would like are similar to that and the one that is taken is already taken but it is for sale at an unspecified price (you have to submit offer). So i was just wondering how far i should go in purchasing the smaller more exact domain.

But I think i will save the money and think about that later.

To dzoaffiliate, I heard that hyphenated domains were sometimes considered spammy by google as that might be a tip off that it is a spam site?

but i will most likely look into them just so my competitor doesnt snatch them up!
