Hello, hoping someone can answer a simple question for this newbie:

When I post a backlink pointing to my main site, do I post the actual url itself like this: ww.websiteaddress.com

or do I do it like this: Click HERE !

In the latter case, are the search engines able read what is under the word "HERE" (the url of the link itself)?

I hope my question makes sense.

THANK YOU.

Well, what I do when posting backlinks to forums, I'll use my site for an example:

TechCombo | A combination of all areas of technology.. thats the normal url

to make it a URL I then turn the link into this : TechCombo | A combination of all areas of technology

However, if you want to have the name of your site only along with the URL, I would do this:

TechCombo | A combination of all areas of Technology

So, from this I have moved the *]* sign forward in order to make it a good backlink

techcombo, thanks - but the links you have posted are all identical...

Furthermore, if I "hide" my link under the word CLICK HERE, can google still see it?

    Thanks again for replying!

Hm. I think you should put the name of your site instead, so you could put instead of Click HERE,

    Lose Weight || But Gently

Or something like that. Google likes that

The best thing you can do is link to your website with your main keyword phrase. So for example if your site's main keyword phrase is 'pet supplies online' you would do a link like this: pet supplies online

You want your anchor text or the clickable part of the link to be your main keyword phrase as much as you can. The reasoning is that the search engines will pick up on that and when they spider through your links it tells them what your website is about and what to expect on your website or on that particular page.

If you can't get an anchor text link you will want to link to your website as www.yourdomain.com. Just be consistent with adding the www.yourdomain.com instead of just linking to http://yourdomain.com.

Below is are links to a search for a domain with Yahoo Site Explorer that shows backlinks. Notice the difference between what they pickup as www.domain.com and http://domain.com

Site Explorer - Search Results 1,956 Backlinks

Site Explorer - Search Results 26 Backlinks

In closing backlinks are very important to your online business and if you can do anchor text links make sure you do them with your main keyword phrase as the clickable part of the link.

        This was a great answer.

To the OP - you definitely do NOT want to do it like Go HERE with your full URL buried underneath.

That defeats the purpose of backlinking really. Your objective is to have your KEYWORD PHRASES backlinked with your full URL.

If you do not have Angela Edwards - a great backlink warrior on this forum - you should. Its a great intro to backlinking, and a valuable service.

30 killer backlinks for free and .. $5 a month and they keep coming at you.

Good that you asked now instead of after you left hundreds of posts around the globe :-)

        Best of luck!
