Benefit my client's rankings?

I have a client that writes and distributes press releases about once a week (large company in the Social Security Disability industry), and they currently have about 1,200 inbound links from PRweb.

I know it's good to have as much (quality) referring domains as possible when it comes to SEO and acquiring good rankings, and am trying to figure out if it'd be worth sending my client a proposal on diversifying press release distribution channels in order to better our SEO efforts.

What are your thoughts on this? Would diversifying press release services (distribution channels) benefit my client in terms of SEO? Why or why not?

Top Alternatives to PRweb that we had in mind:

Marketwire
Businesswire
PRnewswire

Your constructive feedback would be greatly appreciated, Warriors.

I've been utilizing PR distribution services for my clients for quite some time now, and get great benefits out of them.

While I certainly appreciate your response, I'm hoping someone can give me some constructive input on this rather than a disbelieving statement made by the one and only Matt Cutts.

I remember some time ago, Matt mentioned that Google doesn't crawl NoFollow links thus doesn't affect your rankings. But in reality, if ALL your links are DoFollow, it is blatant artificial manipulation of the search results, and you will still likely get into trouble.

It's always good to have diversity in SEO, even if it is denied by Matt himself, because it is only natural to have a variety in your backlinks. Heck, they hate people doing SEO to begin, so we are in a rather shady industry. We have to keep things looking natural where possible.

So I'd say go ahead and diversify your press release as you suggested as an add-on to your SEO campaign. It shouldn't be your main SEO strategy though.

Well the links that those PR services use are all dofollow links, so I wouldn't be worried about that. I try to make sure I have some nofollow links for my clients, because like you said, it'd be "unnatural" to have only dofollow links.

I think I'm going to try and switch it up a bit and use Marketwire for a couple months to see what kind of traction I can get out of that.

The more referring (quality) domains the better, right?

Yes, more quality domains referring in is good. Just don't overdo it.

Spreading them out over couple of months sounds decent enough!

Of course, this is provided that your press release backlinks aren't your only backlinks, but I'm sure you already have that planned out. Good luck!

I would suggest you to go Press Release if you have a really good news article. Press Releases won't help much in today's world.

One thing a lot of people miss here is:

Press release is not meant to be like article submission, press release are meant to be sent out only when a company has an important message to say or give out simply to how major companies use FB for announcement.

Ofcourse, in the process your press release might get syndicated and giving you a back link usually from quality news site.

For this to happen, your press release has to really be a press release for it to be featured and captured by top sites and also give you the most needed back links.

I agree. All of my client's press releases are newsworthy though, so they usually don't have a problem getting syndicated and published on local news sites.

It's a great idea to diversify Press Release channels. It's important to have great pitches in the press release, when you get coverage by the media, those are all free links. Try MarketersMedia too.

If your client has a huge budget, need real exposure, solid and concrete ones, and want to have his link featured on more than 800+ guaranteed online media placements (real media, featured on news, tv stations, radio stations, 800+ guaranteed listings with report), let me know, I can help. The price is in 4 figures though and no other press release services will offer this (as not really everyone can afford).
