I recently shifted my static website to WordPress and have realized that whenever I enter my site's name in the browser like www.nameofmywebsite.com it automatically redirects to nameofmywebsite.com ('www' gets removed automatically). I mean, it should display the name of the website in browser with 'www' but is strips that part and display only the site name.

Is this normal behavior of WordPress? Has anyone else experienced it?

Though, earlier it was working perfectly fine. Also, all pages of my site are index by Google as www.nameofmywebsite.com/FirstPost.php.

Will Google treat URL without 'www' as different URL and I can expect some change possibly decrease in search engine rankings?

Thanks

It's called canonical issue. You will have to fix it to see "www" including your website name.

Go under the general settings and change the URL to the WWW version if that is what you were using before.
