Can a subdomain rank #1 in google?

Hi , simple question.

Lets say you got a keyword with like 2-3k searches p/month on google.
Lets say there is no hard competition for it (so no domainnames matching the keyword, or anything specificly ranked for it)

Is it possible to rank (for example) "keyword. blogger.com" for this keyword to #1?

cheers;)

100% yes, you can even get subdomain folders to rank on page one, some actually higher than the TLD itself!!!

Unique article and video content is the key, get them both on your page/SD/folder area and you will be on page one in days :)

I think there might actually be a boost from exact match using subdomains without the penalties associated with EMD domains.

web2.0backlinks.com is a subdomain and ranks very well, along with those other wiki examples. Not sure if it gets all the benefits of an EMD without any of the negatives but it appears so...interesting to test on a large scale or ultra competitive keywords.

That's a nice eg. But ranking a sub domain is really difficult and will have to work really very hard for it.

Of course a subdomain can rank. Depending on the keyword it can be fairly easy. Its just like ranking a landing page.

That is just so much BS. Obviously you have never heard of Disney,
ESPN, ABC, about.com, zap2it, amazon, ebay,....how about the forum
that may outrank WF? forums.digitalpoint.com...yeah I know. Those are,
um, authority sites....EXACTLY! So go out and do likewise!

Effort is not needed less just because you are not using a "standard"
form of a web address. If there was such a thing.

Of course you can rank ANY subdomain on 1st place. And it could be really easy, because you can use your keyword in the domain name (something that you can't do with your domain name -> in most times and if you are trying to rank for more than 2-3 keywords in the same time!) :)

Yes, it can rank #1.
However, it doesn't mean you may take advantage from Blogger or any other well ranked domain. You still need to have good contents so that it ranks #1.

HI,
I have a site in my sub-domsin of my main domain and the url is : http://auto.standardinfoproducts.com

Now I would like to ask experts of SEO whether I can rank this site in Google or should I forget the idea of ranking sub-domain possibly at the first page of Google. When some of the experts will say, Yes I can rank this site at the first page of Google, then I will add Adsense there at my site.

Would appreciate for giving me your valuable opinions.

Thanks
Kamrul

No expert can tell you you can rank that site, only that page on that site can be ranked, if properly SEO'd.

Why not add adsense now?

Sub domains can rank just like pages on a website can rank. I thought that went without saying.

I know this comment is old but it doesn't matter If a page is on a domain or sub-domain. Same SEO, different URL.

No big deal.

Here's a few:
  • Stop posting anything to threads that are this old!
  • As it was clearly spelled out in the thread it doesn't matter if the site is using a subdomain or not. Read the thread before posting.
  • If you've got questions about your SEO, don't post them to random threads.
I know this will blow some minds here, but technically speaking the "www" part of any www.xxx.tld is a subdomain. I see no reason to expect that Google would treat other subdomains differently.
