Can it be bad for a new site, to link highly relevant, high quality links to it?

So many that I decided it would be stupid not to start a website and link all those videos to the site.
Well for about 7 weeks I slowly built links on the site and at one point found it on page 30. Even though it was a crappy ranking I was happy because at least it was somewhere in google. It stayed around page 30 for most of its time as a new site.
Then I decided to link 4 of my youtube videos, which outrank the site by a longshot (2 are on page 2 of google, another 2 on page 4), to the site, and a couple of days later the site took a massive drop. All I know is it fell below page 100.
I did this because I was afraid the videos wouldn't rank any higher, but the website could potentially rank higher in the future.
Now, is it possible that those videos caused something to happen?
Is this just a typical google dance? I can still find the site when typing thesite.com into google. But not for searching its keywords.
Its just weird that it happened right after I gave the site 4 of its best links. So far its been getting mostly blog links and web2.0 from low ranking pages. No high ranking YT videos till recently.
So now I'm bugged out. I have a lot more highly relevant YT videos with tons of views, ranking fairly decent, should I continue to link them to the site?
Or is it possible that I gave the site "too much" link juice to soon?
