Can it be bad for a new site, to link highly relevant, high quality links to it?

I have a bunch of older, highly relevant, high quality youtube videos ranking well in google serps.

So many that I decided it would be stupid not to start a website and link all those videos to the site.

Well for about 7 weeks I slowly built links on the site and at one point found it on page 30. Even though it was a crappy ranking I was happy because at least it was somewhere in google. It stayed around page 30 for most of its time as a new site.

Then I decided to link 4 of my youtube videos, which outrank the site by a longshot (2 are on page 2 of google, another 2 on page 4), to the site, and a couple of days later the site took a massive drop. All I know is it fell below page 100.

I did this because I was afraid the videos wouldn't rank any higher, but the website could potentially rank higher in the future.

Now, is it possible that those videos caused something to happen?
Is this just a typical google dance? I can still find the site when typing thesite.com into google. But not for searching its keywords.

Its just weird that it happened right after I gave the site 4 of its best links. So far its been getting mostly blog links and web2.0 from low ranking pages. No high ranking YT videos till recently.

So now I'm bugged out. I have a lot more highly relevant YT videos with tons of views, ranking fairly decent, should I continue to link them to the site?

Or is it possible that I gave the site "too much" link juice to soon?

What kid of timescales are you talking? As in when did you apply the links, when did it drop (presumably the same time the links were cached was it?) and how long has it been dropped for?

From what you said so far, personally I'd think with it being a new site that this is just normal dancing and would expect it to come back soon although there are other factors such as the site itself and onsite structure as well as other "low quality" links like you say but with it being brand new and only happened when you added the youtube vid links I suspect it to just be dancing.

Well between weeks 1-7 I was doing mostly blog links from blogspot, wordpress, tumblr, live journal and a few social book marks.

At week 6 it was on page 30, then week 7 went to page 36.

So I put some high quality/highly relevant youtube video links (they were being aged for 4-5 months and it was the first time I linked youtube) and exactly 2 days later the website fell from page 36 to nowhere to be found.

I am now noticing there seems to be some type of update going on to.
So I guess I'll have to wait it out. Hopefully its just the dance and the site comes back up at some point. Guess I'll see.
