Why my competitors backlinks are just crap and not hit by google penguin or panda?

Hi WF,
I think Google is unfaire, I checked my competitors on the first page of google using backlinkwatch and spyglass and I found that 90% of their backlinks are just crap and spam. Many directories with the same description, also many blogs comments with spammy descriptions which means they used an automated submission software, lot of links exchanged with websites which have PR0, few articles on ezine articles and other article directories and the websites are on the first page of google for a keyword that has a high competition with 21,300,000 websites behind them.
Now to compare all that with my website which is on page 20 of google fpr the same keyword, I have all my backlinks done manually on clean websites with zero spam and with higher PR than 2, and I can't even reach the 5 first pages of google. Some of you could say maybe my website is new but No, my website was launched three years ago, so it's not new. So how can you explain this situation? I think Google is unfaire!!

    The Website is ranking top since when?

    Wait for a couple of months till rankings of your competitors who used spam methods gets tanked, yesterday there was major google algorithm update which hurt several websites ( thousands). Many of them have lost google search page ranks including my site, although I never spammed, and yes those who spammed are still on top may be next update will drown them also.

    I have exactly the same problem. My site dropped significantly after penguin, some sites with No content, poor code and no SEO, that haven't been touched for over 5 years are ranking top for main keywords, how can a site like that rank no1????

    With the latest updates, i am seeing lot of sites with spam backlink profile ranking for some high searched keywords, not sure what google is upto.
