Quick question:

For organic Google SEO optimization nowadays, in authority html (not wp) sites is it better to have internal article html pages named with, or without hyphens in keyword phrases; for example:

a) fitnesstraining.html

or

b) fitness-training.html

for better placement? Years ago hyphenated keyword phrase html pages were good, nowadays I'm not sure if it matters as much; just wanted to check.

thanks,

k

  • Kencalhn,

I think for URL’s in general it does not matter whether or not works are hyphenated. Google and other engines are advanced enough to tell the difference.

Here is a good writeup on it though,

Domain Name With or Without Hyphens?

    Hope that helps,

    Please consider below eg:,
    Google will identify
Hypen (-) as Space or Separator

Underscore (_) as Joint or one word

Hyphens are always good to be used.

Use hyphens to separate words. Standard operating procedure.

Hey kencalhn, many people wonder about this. Technically hyphens are the separators, so they should be used where search engines may not correctly separate your keywords. Just taking a random example, guestsexchange.com - is that guests-exchange or guest-sex-change? In all other cases hyphens are really not required, as search engines will correctly dissect the keywords. If you ask my opinion, neither has more SEO value. It all depends on you and your client. I like the hyphens just for readability but never mind I wear glasses
