Can your main money website get a Google penalty from having an inbound link from another website that has been penalised by Google or is that link just worthless/disregarded and Google does not penalise your website?

Looking forward to hearing your answers

Yes, your main website can get a Google penalty. You can use the new disavow tool to remove potentially harmful links

But if a site has 200 links pointing at it, how do you know if ONE of those sites got a penalty ? It is not like they are going to tell everyone?

My understanding is that Google will first warn you through Webmaster Tools if it detects unnatural links. And if you have 200 inbound links and one isn't great, I highly doubt you'd have any problems. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Just to clarify the question, LloydMS mentioned it - If I have 199 good white hat links and 1 link from what used to be a trusted website that then got hit for doing their own black hat techniques, would this be an issue?

Of course NO. If it would be a problem, it would be a complete nonsense. You don't need to worry about it at all.

If all your 199 links gets penalties and only 1 link doesn't, than you should worry.
