I just got an email with a company selling negative SEO, they guarantee to knock any competitor site off in Google. Has anyone had any experience with companies like this? I've heard of negative SEO in the past, but this is the first time I've been solicited for such a service.

I would be real curious if anyone has any information on this, as if you can knock off sites within Google with negative SEO that's huge....

This is why panda #24 is strong an shaking urls to the ground

Eventually updates will keep SEO inconsistent for "Everyone" to get a shot at "Page one" rank and Invest more on Adwords, youtube etc.

    Example:

Mr. www.woodenchairs Dot Com says "boy I think I want to hire Negative SEO to Greed more money for me even if I hurt them... Pays $1000, 3 weeks later Boom Site drops...

Google Says Panda 7,000 Update Boom next month your ranks are gone too.

At least how things are going now..

Never heard of a company actively promoting negative SEO before. A real shame. Definitely not something I'd consider. It's one thing to be grey or even black hat, it's another to start using negative SEO tactics.

Fiverr has been doing negative SEO for a while, only they call it regular SEO.

What are they doing to get someone knocked off? I've always thought the large players were fairly insulated....I know what I would do...as it's been done to me...but to do it repeatedly and long term...

Why not just do regular SEO and outrank your competitors? Call it whatever you want, it's all the same at the end of the day. You can be competitive, get results, and "do the right thing".

yup you can do negative SEO to knock down your competitor but the question is do you really have that much time and money to do that?????????

You can hire someone for this to knock down one competitor... But in reality you have plenty of competitors against each keyword :-D

So its better to invest in ethical SEO not negative SEO..............

I don't think negative SEO does really exist, if it does all of them will start building spam back links to their competitor websites. Google also knows this and hence I do not believe that they will support such a thing such a thing. Low quality back links are simply not considered by Google or they will give zero weight and that's it. Once upon a time, even low quality back links use to help in getting better search engine rankings but later on, now that is not the case. Google is giving weight to back links that has value, which resulted in millions of websites losing their rankings for most of their keywords.

The websites lost rankings because the weight of their back links has become zero or low. This is not negative SEO. If you build low quality or spammy back links to your competitors, they are simply ignored.

I do not consider myself as an expert in this field, this is just my opinion, which I have learned from my experience

Low quality backlinks aren't simply ignored. If Google indexes a backlink, they pay attention to it, whether it's a contextual link on a PR 5 article or a blog comment on a 1000+ OBL autoapprove, ScrapeBox spammed blog.

Negative SEO exists. The simple fact that Google gives link penalties is absolute proof that negative SEO is possible. Now, whatever service that is is most likely garbage which won't produce any real negative SEO results (serves you right for bad "SEOmanship!", but with the right strategies it's indisputably doable.

      Of course they can.

In general, mentioning negative SEO in a positive manner (or asking for negative SEO advice) is the easiest way to get flamed on an SEO forum.

Quite apart from the utterly unethical business model - enough to disqualify that company 1000% in my eyes - their "guarantee" is based on what is almost certainly a myth.

In all my years and testing - right up to date - I haven't found any conclusive proof that negative SEO exists. In the sense that they mean it, anyway.

This said - you CAN screw your site by spammy-linking and spammy content, but that's a different story to knocking your competitor out. Or, to put it differently - your competitor would have to ALREADY SUCK at SEO for your spam-linking to have the desired effect.

If, on the other hand, their SEO is solid and their authority and trust rank well-established, there's no amount of bad linking that would derail them. OK, I never tried to do that to anyone, but I know of people who have tried to do this to other - well established and trusted - sites.

    They failed.

Let me ask you one question-

If Google penalties exist, how can negative SEO not exist?

A year or two ago I've spent many months trying to ascertain this. I've tested dozens of sites and approaches to work out Google's "scoring system". Things MAY have changed, but I somehow doubt this. If I'm wrong, then you should be able to bring down any of the big companies you don't like. Meanwhile as you can see, the big boys are still on top and don't tell me someone's not trying to undermine them!

As for Google "penalties" - that's a question of interpretation and, as far as I can tell, Google doesn't actually specify what exactly do they mean by "penalties". Most people assume "negative" points. I instead assume "very low points".

So, if you assume that a low-level backlink is worth, say, 1 point, then a "negative SEO backlink" rather than being worth "minus 1", may be worth, say, 0.001 points.

In this manner, all sites which have healthy links will zoom ahead of the one with the bad links, but only because they have more points - not because any points have necessarily been ducked.

Yeah negative SEO is real, but only works when the site in question has a weak profile to begin with. SWIM has taken out many thin affiliate sites in the SERPS. They rise for some time and then drop like the fat chick on a seesaw.

For me, negative SEO should not even be given thought. It's more efficient to focus on making improvements to yourself rather than focusing on your competitors and bringing them down. They could be doing the same thing to you and you can just ask yourself what should you do once this happens. Instead of being busy with your competitors, focus more on yourself and make improvements.

What? This is negative SEO, removing your competitors from Gogole. Not spamming bad stuff about them.

Negative SEO does work. If I can get a link penalty I can do the same thing to my competitors by building links like I did in the past and get them penalized.

If a site doesn't have a good backlink profile then you can pretty much destroy them by blasting spammy backlinks to them .. you can get like 10-20k spammy backlinks within a couple of days for 50 dollars or so .

On the other hand, if your competitor is strong and have thousands/millions of backlink, don't waste your time... invest that money for better SEO or building your own PBN

Negative SEO does exist. My site started to loose rankings and I got the message in WMT. Found loads of dodgy spam links pointing to my site in such a way as it couldn't be a coincidence (there were many other 'coincidences' pointing to negative SEO as well). Someone had done it on purpose. Lots of work and disavow tool later and the rankings came back provign it was those links that did the damage.

Problem with a company that is willing to do this and openly solicit it is that after they have done the deed, they might just ring your competitor and say "we have noticed that someone has attacked your site and rankings, by our research it was (your company). We can fix your site and retaliate in kind for $xxxx" then they just turn the links to point to your site. How can you trust a company with such questionable morals.

Not to mention the obvious fact that you may be able to can your competitor but another will just fill its place and you will have wasted your time and money.
